harryhauler Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 hey everyone i just found this site and so far i love it, i wish i would have found it sooner. but anyway to my problem.... i have an 87 banshee i blew the motor it was bored .80 over already, but it fried the rings the cylinder is shot now, the head is shot, and the crank bearing is gone. it was caused by my right side carb sticking open as far as i know. but anyway im trying to decide whether to have some one rebuild this, it would probably require re sleeving and the whole 9 yards or find a cheap used motor. im trying to get off the cheapest way possible here and any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone here has a used motor let me know thanks Quote

lowbuckracing Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Do some hunting and waiting..Good deals on stock cylinders ready to go are always around....seems like everyone is upgrading to a 4 mill or better and sells there stockers for a nice price complete...Good luck. Quote
Mjv420 Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Re-sleeving can be just as expensive or more than purchasing a set of used cylinders on a smaller bore. Just me personally I would go with the latter. Quote

Just me personally I would go with the latter. thats what i was thinking, it only had about 30 hours on a rebuild and that carb was sticking wide open so i imagine it was that, but the bottom end was rebuilt too so i shouldnt have to mess with that right? so if i can find a stock cylinder and head what else would i need? the pistons and crank bearings is that it? lowbuckracing Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.com/BANSHEE-UNPORTED-CYLIN...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Heres a top end on ebay..When you tear down your motor make sure to check to see if rods have alot of slop or if the crank still feels good...Little prevenative goes along way..Good luck..JB Quote
fck55mph Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 On the sleeving note: I sent my cr250 cylinder to L.A. Sleeve and it cost me a total of $220. That included the new sleeve, installation and a Wiseco Pro Lite piston/ring kit. It was a fast turn around as well. Give them a shout or check thier website and call for a price check. Thats the only time I have had anything sleeved so I don't have anyone else to compare them to but they were quick, and fair priced. Quote
