Pincushion Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 I'm in the midst of doing a top end job on my 03. What parts are prone to breakage and should be upgraded while I have it apart? I know about the pancake bearing and I have one en route. I also know the clutch baskets are weak points, but what else? This is a play Banshee only dune ridden. Stock internals with a few bolt ons.... not an 90hp monster. I just want to save myself the headache of problems down the road and would like to iron any issues out now. Thanks! Quote
shogs Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Getting your stock crank welded would help reliability and is relatively cheap. Maybe stronger tie rods and use your stock set as a backup. Not trying to market mine to you but I have a set of aftermarket tie rods that are very strong and are flat black if your interested. Paid like 120 for them and tie rod ends only want around 30-40 out of em. Quote

If so, I'm pretty sure my new pancake bearing will come with a replacement. And when you say stock rod angle.... are you meaning the con rods? Thanks for the replies! Quote

firebanshee Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 I think getting your crank welded is extremely important, and getting a TZ bearing isn't a bad idea, and a big hell yea to the water pump impeller. I would also do the shift star mod and i like to grind out the shift shaft were the stud sicks through it were the spring is so you don't break that stud off when you are slamming gears you just take some of the metal of and widen that window out a little. And i would replace the spark plug boots, the resistors go bad alot in the stock ones. Quote
