F.T.W. Banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I bought a banshee about 3 to 4 years ago the guy i bought it from said it was a 2000. I was lookin on line cuz I was courious. All that the Banshee vins that I seen all started with a J and mine starts with an R. I called the Yamaha Corp and asked them to run my vin and the came up with nothing. Weird. Does anyone know what the deal is. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 What does the title say? Quote
F.T.W. Banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 I didnt get a title I just got a bill of sales and the registation card. I also noticed that Banshee vins have 17 charecters and mine only has 7. Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Sounds like they used the engine serial number as the VIN number. I've seen it done before. Just go down to your local police dept and explain the situation and ask them what you need to do to get a new VIN and they will provide you with a little metal tag you rivet onto your frame with a new VIN and certificate of origin. F.T.W. Banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 I dont know about that cuz Banshee motor vins start with 2GU or 3GG Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Is the frame a factory replacement frame? As far as I know, like new cases, new frames from the factory do not come with a VIN, but like BigRed said, the DMV in your state may have given it a birth day and stamped/tagged the frame. When I registered my custom-made trailer, I had to get it stamped with a VIN at DMV... Quote
F.T.W. Banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 That would make sense. That must be it that would be the only explaination. Thanks guys. Quote

You should have taken the brand new frame and the receipt down to DMV immediately to have it stamped. I would imagine the same process can be done now, it just might be more of a pain considering the bike is now assembled and has been ridden. I guess it depends how anal your local DMV is. It may vary from state to state as well... Quote
#1banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 thats true each state might be diff... I hope I dont have prob's... On the frame where is the vin located? Quote
F.T.W. Banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 Left side bottom frame under motor Quote
#1banshee Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Left side bottom frame under motor ahh guess I will have to check tomorrow...do the cops @ glamis check all this shit? Quote

It may vary from state to state as well... It does vary I took my new frame down along with the old one title in hand. they said they would not inspect it until the bike was reassembled. Which really sucked because I was planning on taking my time with it doing a total rebuild. They want to see all my receipts too. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Well, it would not be the first time I recieved incorrect information from a DMV representative. I suspect it behoove anyone swapping frames to visit his or her local DMV inspection office and get the information from the source. The good old "DMV information hotline" is a joke. Quote
