Gurnzz Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 shee wont start when cold outside. in heated garage starts on first kick but when outside shee does nothing. my elevation is about 100 ft above sealevel and the average temp here is about 20-30 degrees F but sometimes colder. right now the carbs have 350 mains, 27.5 pilots and needles at i beleive 2nd postition. any help would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks... Gurnzz Quote
Dinner Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I'm assuming you are using the choke when you are trying to start it outside? What are your other mods to your engine? Sounds to me like the Pilots might be too small for the outdoor cold weather. When it is in a heated shop it'll start since the temp is quite a bit different and pilots are allowing enough fuel in to start. Quote

When it is in a heated shop it'll start since the temp is quite a bit different and pilots are allowing enough fuel in to start. It'll take a few kicks to get it started at that temp. If it started easily in the cold, I'd think the pilots were too big. My stocker has the same problem, and I only have 25 pilots. As long as it starts easily when the engine is warm, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Quote
SSSSSS! Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Try a kick or two or three with it shut off before trying to start it. Works for me. Quote
Gurnzz Posted December 26, 2008 Author Report Posted December 26, 2008 hey Dinner here what my banshee has. My Banshee (optional): 98 banshee white and blue black powdercoated rims w/blue powdercoated hubs tag bars and asv levers wiseco superstock pistons +.040 noss head with 20cc domes billet waterpump impeller adjustable timing plate tors eliminated 350 mains w/27.5 pilots carbon fiber reeds k+n w/no lid or snorkle fmf fatties w/turbinecore 2 silencers boost bottle razors all around heres the problem shee wont start outside in cold weather unless i pop start it. if outside temp is at least 55 degrees shee will start but once the outside temp gets below about 30 degrees shee wont start. im using the choke and kick it several times but no start. in my heated garage where the temp is about 70 degrees shee will start every time on the first kick. sooo what do i think ?? any ideas. thanks gurnzz Quote
Gurnzz Posted December 26, 2008 Author Report Posted December 26, 2008 hey Dinner what size pilot jet would u recommend ? Quote
firebanshee Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Low compression can also cause these symptoms, might not hurt to check. But like stated in a prior post rolling your bike through with the choke on and the ignition off does help ALOT your jetting doesn't seem that far off to me, you are on the rich side of things with the main circuit and needles but that's not a bad thing. You could try bumping your pilot up to 30 but i always have used a 27.5 with no problems. Quote
Gurnzz Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 hey firebanshee what u recommend for main jets then. i was thinking maybe 330 ?? thanks for ur advice ! Quote
firebanshee Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 hey firebanshee what u recommend for main jets then. i was thinking maybe 330 ?? thanks for ur advice ! I think that would be a very good starting point, with needle on middle clip. You should land somewhere between 300 - 330. Quote

dajogejr Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 In my opinion, 350 mains are WAY fat for still running an airbox, regardless of the temps.320 to 300 would be more in line. Your pilot is fine, turn the air screws in 1/2 turn. Check compression just for the heck of it...but, normally if it's worn...it'll be real tough to start warm or cold. Quote
