hollisatp Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 I like the aftermarket clutch covers with the clear window.. Has anyone tried or is there a mod for cutting out a window from the stock cover? I would think it would be easy to do?! Just keep the screw hole and cut out the inside.... anyone?? Thoughts?? Quote
Wildcardracing Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Most of those are stock covers that have been modified. 1 Quote

That window is actually bigger than the stock Yamaha insert... I know you can buy a billet plug to cut your stock cover, then weld/epoxy it in..but you want the window.... Call Direct Drive and see if they'll sell you just the insert and window. Quote
some87 Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 could you use the cover with out the locker? Quote
dajogejr Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Yep..just make sure you add more fluid since it will increase the capacity. 2 qts. 1 Quote
jbooker82 Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 One of my friends is trying that. Take the stock insert out and knock the aluminum out leaving the screw holes, and just run a small clear pice of lexan. If your going to try it I would just use silicone to seal it up instead of an O ring. Only running 3 bolts and an O ring will warp the lexan and it will eventully leak. That is the same reason why direct drive went from a 6 bolt lexan to a 12 bolt lexan. He is also going to clean up the stock cover and ditch the (big) plastic water pump cover and make a small lexan cover for the water pump (replace the steel impeller cover) josh Quote

ISSUES Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Do you guys think 1/4" polycarbonate would be fine for this mod? Quote
2001Stroker Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I was thinking about also doing this. I sent an email to DirectDrive, and this is what I got back. Hi Chris, are you referring to just the parts for an old style quick change clutch cover mod,you would have to machine your stock cover for these parts to be fitted..one of the reasons that we switched to our new one piece cover is that the stock covers are very weak in the kick starter area and would break very often.they are only about 1/8 inch thick. our new clutch covers are close to a 1/2 inch thick in that area as well as having extensive bracing added to the inside of the cover to help prevent breakage,if you are still interested in just the parts to modify your stock cover let us know and we will check our stock on them. Do you sell one for a Banshee, that I can modify my stock cover myself? Quote
