sa3ood_banshee Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 I agree with the above post. If your spark plug backed out, then it's probably from detonation, and you could be replacing a lot of parts. It's never a good sign, if a spark plug backs out. ^^ tha man said it!!! sa3ood Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 Is it possible my stock timing is off that much? I know the guy I picked the bike up from put new plugs in not to long before I bought it, since he was trying to sell it. I really believe it wasn't installed to specification. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 I think the compression check was innaccurate too... It usually starts on the first kick and everything. Idk, I'm still trying to locate another gauge. Quote
shanYE west Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Alot of things can cause detonation. If the motor was boiling coolant, I'd start by looking at the cooling system since that will be the easiest. If that checks out.. do a leak down test .. a air leak can cause a motor to heat up and detonate also. A leak down really should be done to rule that out.. It would suck to put the new topend in and blow the motor up again from the same air leak.. Quote
elwilliams13 Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 What shop are you taking it to? Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 7, 2008 Author Report Posted September 7, 2008 I think I'm going to send the top end out to HJR if it ends up having to be done, and probably port it while it's out there. When it comes back, I will probably have Cypress Cycle (On Oaks and Immokalee in Naples) put the mods on that I can't do. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 if your stock timing then that wasnt detonating. what rating fuel are you using. your jetting could be lean. any detonation caused plugs to back out, also gets hot and melts pistons. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 93 octane, Yamalube 2R, 32:1. Never failed me with the Blaster. It never failed me before with the 'Shee either. I'm going to leave it at the plug being installed incorrectly for now. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 you can leave it at that but that didnt cause it to heat up, whats you jetting? Quote
shee4speed Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 yeah, def.make sure you check the cooling system now before you go out running long trips. Quote
Michael Jackson Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 I won't have such a hot running bike once I bring it to the shop. I'm having a cool head, domes, exhaust, pods, tors removed, all that stuff, so it will run much cooler. how is any of that gona make it run cooler? Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 13, 2008 Author Report Posted September 13, 2008 how is any of that gona make it run cooler? I'd imagine a head that can hold 70% more liquid would run cooler? The stock exhaust and a uni filter don't help much either. It's to restrictive...the pods and the toomeys are going to really let the air flow. ----------- I checked the coolant, and it was actually almost full. The bottle was empty. I added some to the radiator, and filled the overflow. I ran it for about 10 minutes, and then re-comp checked it, and it moved up to about 100 psi on each cylinder. It is running, so that is a good sign. I'm taking off parts to get them powder coated during the week next week. I'm going to flush the coolant entirely, replace it all. Then I'm going to flush and replace the gear oil. By the time that's all done, I should have my pipes here, and the jets and adj. timing plate should be on its way. I'm going to install most/all my mods, and get it tuned right. I'm going to rip the carbs off, and clean the piss out of them, and rebuild them. After all that is dialed in...I was thinking HJR rebuild and aggressive trail port. Then, by the time that gets back, I should have rims/tires, and I'll be ready for the dry winter season, and ready to rip up some 450s and shit. Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted September 13, 2008 Author Report Posted September 13, 2008 you can leave it at that but that didnt cause it to heat up, whats you jetting? Stock, no mods. I live in Florida, it's summer, a few hurricanes have strolled through (humidity) and was running a stock Banshee on an 1/8th mile strip, and being a dumbass about it too. I think that's what did it. I have not looked at the jetting (I know, I know.) I have not had any bog problems that weren't solved by the new air filter. I'm installing these mods, then sending it over to HJR for a rebuild and port work. After the mods are installed, I will be using a jet kit to jet it right. (I know I can save money, but I want it.) ------- There was some in the overflow before it over heated, it must have sucked it in because it was empty after. I'll have to check the impeller once I get back to the shop. Can someone link me to a good billet one? (Thanks in advance.) What other mods do you reccomend for the cooling system? If the impeller is fine, what else could have caused the overheating? It wasn't detonation. Quote
