CDI can work intermittently. Everything that’s being described is a symptom of a bad CDI. Coloring could be from the CDI not working I suppose. But that working fine and then not 30-45 minutes later almost has to be electrical. Plus, that’s the kind of shit a bad CDI will cause. Coils almost always work or don’t work. CDI can work fine one minute and be fucked the next.

It might not be the fuel at all. Did it rev up fine and run OK on the bottom? If so, I’d lean towards a bad CDI. I’ve had two of them over the years cause an issue just like that.
