Alright, this is going to be a looong message, so thanks for reading
Ok, it all started when i traded a 400ex that i rebuilt and had about a thousand dollars into, and traded for this banshee. The only thing it needed was a stator. So i trusted the guy, brought it home, tested the stator and it was in fact bad. I bought a rm stator (bad choice at the time, but i didnt know) and put it on and it worked fine, till I ran it down the road.
I noticed my left side was blowing white smoke a lot. So head gasket it is. I go to the stealership, and get me a head gasket. I pull the head off, and while im in there I notice slack in the right side piston. I go and get me a compression tester, do a test, and sure enough, top end rebuild time.
So it took me a while to get all the funds with everything going on, so it sit for a bit. One day i was on here chatting it up, and someone told me i had reed spacers..so im like hmm i have stock carbs, so i will take them off and sell them...well i didnt have short enough bolts to take them out...in the process of taking them off i remember taking off a bunch of electrical tape on the left hand intake boot..big hint here..I bought a timing plate, and put it to plus 4, bought the tors elimination and installed it...the tors was already removed, i just got the smaller carb caps to clean everything up...and bought a cool head with 21cc domes...so anyway i finally got my cylinder honed out and bought new pistons and rings.(.20 over) slapped it together, did a compression test and both sides are equal now.
I am really excited at this point, i get it all together, go to start it, and the fucker starts cutting out and has no power and cuts out when i run it down the road. I come back to the house, pull the plugs, and the right side looks clean....i go get new plug caps...still no go..well someone told me about my squish, so i was like ill just switch to the stock milled head to see if that changes anything...nothing...i put my timing back to stock..nothing...try a rewound stator from akheathen...still no go..everything was put together right, ive pulled the head back off, no marks on the cylinder or anything...ive put new plug caps on, nothing.
I finally did a leak down...found out all that tape on the intake boot was a huge ass rip...so i put new boots on...took my reed spacers out, got shorter bolts, put it all in, did another leak down...one of my gaskets on my reeds didnt seal (the 1 that was used and not new bcuz stealership didnt have all i needed)..but other than that, the leakdown lost like 1 psi over a minute..very small leak....since then i havent fucked with it..im getting really irritated...i was for sure that rip was it..still same problem..carbs are squeaky clean...
oh forgot to add, i took the stator off, checked that gasket there, sprayed all around the head, the intake gasket on the left hand side is the only thing i saw leaking.
