Does this sound like a jetting problem?
theoriginal87 replied to theoriginal87's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
yea seems to start fine when its cold its just after u ride it around any that it wont start... but right now i have it at 280 mains 27.5 pilots and one clip leaner and my mods are k&n air filter with no snorkel, pro curciut pipes & silencers, and a mild mx port. im about 4000 ft above see lvl i believe and i have about 120 psi in each cylinder. as for when it broke it was just a chipped gear and also i had this problem before the gear was chipped.... any ideas?? -
Ok so tonight i just got my shee all back together and took her out for a spin and she seemed to be running fine except i have the same problem as before she broke..... so i can go ride her around for a good while and everything is going great untill i turn it off then nothing... wont start back up after you have ridden and kill it... i know the bike isnt jetted perfect but this problem makes it a bitch to jet!! so im just wondering if anybody thinks this could be related to my jetting or possibly somethign else????
-
its all good now it think it was just a combo of the really heavy weight oil and some coolant getting into the case making them stick together but we got it working now!
-
we had another bike that had a new barnett clutch kit in it so we robbed that from the dead bike and put it on his. the other bike had oil in it had not beeen sitting for very long so we didnt have to soak the plates... the clutch seeemed to be working fine when we first got it all together but it was when we had kicked it over and moved the bike around abit that it stopped working. so i just drained his oil and kicked it abit and it seems that the clutch is working but it has lot of resistance, for example when i dont hold the clutch and push down on the kick the bike will roll forward the more i push on the kick. but when i hold in the clutch i can kick it over bt it jumps forward alittle. So we're gonna head to town and get some 10w-30 and run some through it and see if it improves....
-
can putting a high wieght gear oil in your gear case cause the clutch to stick together because my friend put a 75w-90 gear oil in his shee just to see if it would run after putting a new clutch kit in and the clutch seems to stick when in gear if you kick it over the bike will roll forward and also it was about 50 something outside so i was thinking that the oil was to high of a wieght making the clutch stick.... everything was torqued to spec with a clymers manual and clutch was also adjusted with 10-15mm of free play in the clutch handle.... so im thinking its just the oil he put in ..... what do u guys think?????

wouldnt dout it one bit iv ran into douche bags bigger than that... not related to riding tho jus being the stupid pigs they are... even though just recently i was riding along side the road n about a foot of snow , about 20 ft from the actual road itself on my kawasaki prarie.... i live about 20 miles from town and was headed to a friends house thats alittle ways down the highway and on my way i got pulled over by a state trooper.... so i slowed down and pulled up to the car and he bitched me out for about 5 five minutes on how i was braking some sort of bullshit law and then he tried to write me an $80 ticket.... so while he was getting his shit to ticket me i fired my quad back up n sprayed his car with snow as i took off..... i mean really what was he thinking theres like a foot of snow and im on a 4wd quad.... he chased me for abit before he realised i was long gone..... non the less i thought it was stupid for pulling me over and trying to ticket me for staying off the icy roads and keeping everyone else alittle safer. but anyways i just thought id share my crappy experience with johny law....

i was thinking that but its kinda pricey for me right now.... but it looks like i found a guy that has a basket, hub, clutch kit, and all n he said he would give it all to me for 50 so im gonna check that out but thanks for the offer and the help!
-
i would love to take you up on that offer but the thing it with it being rivited in how would i put the new gear on after i ground it off?
-
ok so i just tor down my shee and the primary drive gear on the clutch basket is wrecked and im supposed to go on a trip next week!! so im wondering if anybody has a good basket with the gear or if i can just replace the gear itself?? if anybody has anything for a good price lemme know soon it will be greatly appreciated

im just not ment to ride,......

ok so from my understanding i shouldnt have to really take anything else off to see whats wrong with it, just basically put the ass end up on blocks and spin the gears. well then again it makes the noise when its idling so that should isolate the bad gears to the ones that always move and i shouldnt have to remove anymove gears to find the porblem or is there more behind the basket that could be a problem?? -

i know its just gears genrally cost a big chunk o' change and i kinda short on money right now.... lol all i have to say is college aint cheap.... but thanks for the help and i just need to sit down and do it, but here are some pictures i took for shits n giggles. prolly wont tell u anything but hell it cant hurt, although it does look pretty damn good in there for being an 87 -

and now the depression sets in.... well thanks for the advice guys i really do appreciate it, but from what your saying that somthing as small as a chipped tooth will cause a knocking noise?? Because i noticed that the noise is constant and the bike starts, runs, shifts, and does everything it should it just makes that noise. i havnt run it but for a few seconds in the fear of breaking something worse... but i still figured that something like a damaged gear would be the culprit... so i guess im going to start pulling gears and checking them over and see what horrors i find -
ok so the other day one of the kick starter springs broke and my quad started making this nasty knocking noise so i took it apart and replaced the broken spring and put it all back together and guess what still makes the knocking noise coming from inside the gear case..... so what im thinking when the spring broke the pieces found thier way somewhere else and f*^%ked somthing else up to..... so now im in the process of taking everything out and need some advise on taking the clutch basket off theres a big ass bolt holding what im guessing the be that basket on and it just spins freely. so im wondering on how to remove this and what size socket i need or just if anybody knows whta the problem could even be?? anyways if anybody has any advice i would greatly be appreciated cause i have a bumch of friends coming in a week or so to go on a trip to go ride and right now it looks like im not gonna get to go

ok im pretty sure my shee is f*&%ed
theoriginal87 replied to theoriginal87's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
i have already replaced my fuel line and filter is new.. but the petcock looks pretty dirty so i might try and cleaning that.... but the carbs are almost new and are completly spotless and have been rebuilt by me personally and everything is to spec.... but you said i might just be able to replace the caps? not the entire coil? because that seems fairly enexpensive so i might just try for the hell of it -
take all your jets out and i use really small pipe cleaners (like for arts and crafts) to clean out what i can especially the jets and also get some good carb cleaner and stick the little red straw in all the holes you can find and spray abunch in there.. pretty much carb cleaner will always spray out anonther hole somewhere this will help u find what is clogged... see if that helps

yes the bike is in perfect order... everything is to spec right now... i myself do quite abit of work on vechicles although two strokes a very new to me lol... but yes the plugs are gapped correctly... the carbs are all in order has 115 psi in each cylinder and did a leakdown test already has good gas 32:1, completely redid entire wiring harness, and i have a clymers manual so i know what it should all be... but ok heres how i started my jetting 330 mains, 25 pilots, needle middle clip, air screws 1.5 turns out. and as i went down on the jetting the bike would run better but would pop and sputter at wot so i moved them back up moved my needle clip leaner and adjusted my airscrews help but still runs like crap.... so once again i bumped the jetting down and adjusted everything again but still ran like crap or had poppy and boggy topend -
nah havnt been able to mess with it cause im waiting on parts... the kick spring broke.... but the bike never cuts out while ridding it... you can run it till the tanks empty and it never acts like it struggles for gas... only when i myself kill it it wont start.... but ill still deffinantly check the gas cap... but i have a few more ideas i need to try.... although im starting to think that most of the problem is linked to my shee being a f-ing nightmare to jet.... but before the bike broke i did a compression test and each cylinder came out to 115 cold and did a leakdown and that held a constant 6 psi so the engine looks like its in good shape so when i get my parts in ill let u guys know how it all goes

theoriginal87 replied to theoriginal87's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
yeah i cept now i feel kinda stupid for frealking out so much .... lol but yeah it just turns out that it was the kick starter spring snapped and the kick gear was sliding around knocking agianst the other gears... doesnt look like any serious damage was done so i just have to get a new spring so its all good -

ok im pretty sure my shee is f*&%ed
theoriginal87 replied to theoriginal87's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
no im sorry for how i worded it but basically im not asking why my shee is dead even though it lives now just turns out the kick gear was all messed up and was the culprit of making the horiible clunking noise and it not kicking over... but basically what i am really asking is why is it that when i put the bigger jets on it runs like shit but when i put on the smaller jets it runs great but has a realyl bad top end and yes everything with my carbs is in order (float lvls, pilot jets, needle position, slides are in right, no air leaks, air screws are right choke tube in place, synched, idle set.....) the carbs could not be in better shape reads are in great shape and engine has great compression about 120 in each cylinder... so waht i was thinking that the porting done was not the best there for resulting in my jetting issue?????? -
ok so i did a comp test and a leakdown and it passed with flying colors put on new carbs, redid all the wiring changed and gapped plugs checked pick up gap, and cleaned the strator, im running super unleaded in a 32:1 ratio..... cleaned airfilter and started to dail in my jetting when i noticed that it would only run good when it was really lean around 280-290 mains but would putter and pop and sputter on the top end but when i bumped it up to 300-330 mains it would run like shit... would sputter and wouldnt go into power band to tried changing neddle position and adjusting air screws and still ran like shit with the bigger jets so i bumped it down to 300 and still nothing then she died...so now im gonna have to upkk the head and hope for the best... but my thought is when the guy i got i from said it ha some porting done im thinking it was a dremel job in someones garage .... so i was wondering if anybody thinks the same or has any other ideas why it would be doing this... and what a good mx port costs???

help... banshee died today...
theoriginal87 replied to theoriginal87's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
alright ill prbably go ahead and check those today.... is there anyhting i should look for when i pull the head or check the strator? -
ok so pretty much today i just had finished doing a compression test and found out that both cylinders had about 115 psi in them and then i did a leakdown test and found no leaks so i put it all back together jetted the carbs and synched them and put everything back together kicked it over and started right on the first kick rode it around killed it tuneed the carbs some more kicked right over and rode it around some more stoped and then later came out started right up and went for one last ride went up the road and got to a straight away and opened her up and it didnt seem to be running very good anymore so i slowed down ... but when i tried to put it in neutral so i could get off it for a second i killed it > .... and a along way from the house... so i got on it and tried to kick it over and nothing so eventually it came down to me push startying it.... it started and i started on my way home and on the way seemed to be running abit better so on the road back theres a nice jump you can hit so i criuzed off tto the left and hit the jump and then alittle ways later down the road and all o sudden this horrible clanking or kinda thumpimg noise started coming from the engine..... and i thought oh shit i just threw a rod so i killed it a few seconds after i heard the noise.... so i let it sit for a few minutes and tried to start it again and i started right on the first kick but i was still making the clanking kinda thumpping noise.... so i had my friend pull me back to the house but when we got back the bike wouldnt start again.... so does anybody have any idea what could have possibly gone wrong..... im probably gonna pull the head tomorow......but im still kinda noob to all of this so if anybody has any adive ideas i would greatly appreciate it!
-
ok kinda wat i thought u guys were gonna say lol but hmm i was thinkin about maybe a +4 timing plate? or a cool head? if i went with the head what would be good sized domes? and yeah i really want a set of some yfz shocks but there kinda exsepnsive right now... so i was looking for something round 200 wat u guys think?
-
ok guys now that the banshee is finally almost done.. i want to start thinking about some mods now and basicly im gonna be riding alot of trails but also have alot of open area to let ther fly... but mostly im looking for low to mid range power for the trails. but as the shee stands now is with pro curciut pipes and silencers, k&N filter, snorkel removed, an mx port i believe, clutch kit, and reeds... so im wondering what the next step should be??? lol just nothing thats gonna suck gas like a mofo...
