Change the oil and see if there is any metal in the oil. I'd pull the clutch cover and make sure the screw in between the shifter is centered. I can't think of the name of it off top of my head. Once the cover is off you can pull the shift shaft out and check it. Otherwise its probably been abused and needs shift folks. BTW is this a big HP motor or just close to stock?

I'd say you need to tune your carbs for a start. I'd get some different tires and play with your gearing after the carbs.
