  1. I was just able to pick up a basically new R6 rear shock for peanuts and figured I might try it on the Shee. Is this strictly a flat track mod or are there others using this with some 300EX fronts to lower there bike and ride trails or climb hills? I know i will be killing my ground clearance but my rear shock is junk and was looking for a cheap alternative. Can I possibly make up for this with tire size. I'm running 18's now and get hung up on the swing arm skid plate alot so I was thinking of going up a size or two there. Sorry, posted this in the wrong topic. Home sick from work and not all therejava script:add_smilie("","smid_31")
  2. Thanks again for everything guys. Its good to hear that your not the only one with problems. The funny thing is that this is the price you pay for being active, working hard and keeping yourself in shape. If I were a fat bastard and played video games all my life i might not have a problem. I guess all those years of going over the handlebars and big spills off the big kickers on the snowboard, 60 ft falls rockclimbing, 15 yrs of ice hockey and lifting things i shouldnt have cought up to me. I just got back from the neurologist and he says the degeneration isnt the major cause of the pain. I had the mri done and it does show the degeneration but he says it muscular skeletal pain and still cant be fixed but can be "managed". The best thing is the look on the docs face when you tell him you work on trucks. Its like the look you got when you were 17 and you showed your parents your new tattoo or piercing. Priceless! So thats 2 docs now, still in real bad pain and 2 different diagnosis'. Unfortunatley the banshee is still on the chopping block. I cant ride and then work on mon. If things get better then i'll find another one but for now its better off in someone elses hands. If it doesnt sell than it will stay stored in my barn. No big deal Thanks again guys and sorry to hear that most of you guys are going through the same thing. This situation in general sucks but I guess like my tattooist always says, "pain is good, it lets you know your still alive!" -james
  3. Thanks guys, hearing some of your experiences makes me feel alittle better. Right now i've only been to one doc and am going to see a neurologist on fri. My in laws will probably be dragging me down to some top notch doc in Manhattan after I see the local guys. I love turning a wrench, been doing it since I was 15, now at 30 i'm told i shouldnt do it anymore. Sucks to hear that. I actually got out of workin on heavy equipment because of the toll it was taking on my ,as a field tech I was alone with my truck in all types of weather. Figured working on trucks in a shop would be better. Forgot about bustin tires and shit like that. Hopefully it turns out for the best but i'm bummed right now. I was blown away when the nurse told me that theres really nothing you can do to fix degeneration. Nobody mentioned surgery yet but if it fixed it and my benefits covered it I would go for it. I dont have any kids yet and will be gettin married this summer and would like to get back to normal. The job market up here is so tight lately, especially in construction. Nobody is building anywhere. I would love to operate and excavator. I used to love workin on them and testing them after they were fixed. I guess time will tell! -james
  4. So after a year of building this basket case shee i got a few good months of riding in before this shit happened. Past few months my back and legs have been screaming in pain. Can barely function at work, def no riding. My old lady convinced me to go to the doc to get checked and after all sorts of tests they tell me I have Degenerative Disk Disease. Apparently this happens to everyone when they get alittle older but only a lucky few get nerve damage from this shit. I'm one of the lucky ones. Whats great is that theres no fix for this and it doesnt get better. So since i've been a heavy equipment mechanic for 10yrs and now fixin trucks, the doc recommends i find a new line of work or deal with my knees buckling in pain for the rest of my life. So being totally fucked and not knowing how to do anything else in this world but fix shit and piss people off its time to find a job getting paid to piss people off, either post office worker or DMV clerk I think! Anyway, i remember reading about guys whos hands were fucked from doing windshield work and shit like that and couldnt ride anymore so I figured id share. BTW, if anyone in the tri state area is looking for a clean, rebuilt shee with a worked engine for $2500 let me know. I can get pics up and all that. I hate to get rid of it but its not as bad as looking at the bike sit there. -james
  5. I agree with it being electrical. Double check all your connections, clean all your grounds, pull your side cover and check your pickup gap, go through the basics. Test your coil, check your coil wires and boots. Also check out BenB's post on electrical troubleshooting, it will walk you through the electrical system step by step. good luck!
  6. Hey INFINITIED, Sorry to go so off topic but I was looking at your sig and I used to deal with a guy years ago when I lived on Long Island that had a shop called "Speadfreaks". I cant really remember that well because it was a while back now, but I think he was into racing boats or jet skis because thats what we were doing at the time, either that or we were working on his street car. He was a good guy and we used to bullshit for a while when he came by the shop. james DMC 916's all the way. Best sounding pipes out there.....
  7. I find the best way to break a tire from the bead is to go ride alone, really far from home, in the woods.... jk... Anyway, after you let all the air out of the tire, spray the bead around the rim with PB Blaster or the penetrant of your choice. Spray alot of it! Let it sit for a few minutes to soak, then stand on the wheel and get your heels right into the bead bouncing alittle bit. This will loosen the bead and eventually break it. If not, run it over with your truck! james
  8. I've got a Graydon 2 into 1 setup with a 35 Keihin, ported head, 20cc cool head, dmc 916's, and +5 timing. I got the whole setup with a basket case bike, my carb is fat all the way and the bike still runs great as it is. I ride trails that you can barely get out of second gear, there are some small climbs and then the wide open fields and even with the carb out of tune, the thing has been running great all around. james
  9. I'm no expert but that sounds about right. 21cc head gives you stock compression. Stock compression should be about 130-135psi regardless of size of pistons. No port job or anything. Looks like your in good shape for what you've got. Put it back together and ride! I'm sure some more seasoned guys will jump in shortly. james
  10. I dont know if the 2 into 1 is worth spending tons of money to get over the duals but if you have it, run it. I run a 35PWK and a Greydon intake with a ported motor and DMC 916s on woods trails you cant get out of 2nd gear on and it works pretty well for me so far. The single carb is definitley easier to get tuned in and theres less strain on your thumb with a single spring. IMO work with what you got and put your money in other places that will improve your riding experience like suspension. Dont worry about what the dyno says or what any "expert" is telling you. Get what YOU think will be cool on YOUR bike and YOU will be happy with it at the end of the day.
  11. This may sound like a stupid upgrade but since your talking about reducing clutch pull effort I would go for a braided stainless steel cable thats teflon lined. There available at RM ATV and will make a ton of difference over a stock cable and for only about $30 bucks. You could spend $100 bucks on an ASV lever if you want but i've got a $14 lever and a steel braided line and its sweet.
  12. Hey guys, thanks again for the invite but i'm not gonna make it tomorrow. I backed through one of the bay doors at work last night with a brand new bus and spent most of the day filling out paperwork and pissing in a cup. My days shot, i didnt get to jet my carb like I wanted to and work out any other bugs that may be lurking around and i'm heading out in a few hours so thats that. Hopefully you'll have another meet before summers out.
  13. Thats awesome! Thanks! I'll either leave a message here or PM you as soon as I know if I can make it for sure or not at all. Gonna have to ask the wifey if I can go out and play....
  14. I'd rather rebuild a wiped out 2 stroke than fuck with shimming valves on a 4 stroke any day of the week. Do yourself a favor before getting the banshee. Check the compression and ride the thing. The power comes on alot different than a 4 stroke and you may not like it. And if the top ends worn out and your not into messing with your bike than stay away from it. Otherwise, you cant beat owning a Banshee.
  15. Hey, you guys mind some company from a New Yorker? I've got my shee running half way decent and wouldnt mind breaking her in on some coal fields. I'm only about 3hrs away and if you guys were meeting on Sun i'd probably be able to make the trip down to play. Its not 100% because i'm going to the Journey concert Sat night and its probably gonna let out pretty late but I was thinking I could use a good day trip and a change of scenery.
  16. Just my $.02. I worked at a small airport for years as a ground equipment mechanic. Used to repair all the vehicles that towed, fueled, powered and de-iced aircraft. At this airport we ran mostly gas equipment and they all ran on the Avgas since no one ever wanted to drive to the Mogas pump. This stuff wreaked havoc on the gas engines. Always changing spark plugs that were completely fouled with lead, burnt exhaust valves, blown head gaskets, lots of frequent repairs. When the owners finally got smart and insisted guys only put the Mogas in these vehicles it got rid of alot of maintenance issues. These were all carburated, old Ford 300 straight 6's or Chrysler 224 slant 6's. One tow around with a V8 hemi that ran like a raped date. I personally dont like the stuff but popular opinion says its running pretty good in most guys bikes. I used to run with the 2 stroke race boat crowd and nobody ran the stuff. Used to seem to cause problems in motors when guys used it but a 2 stroke powerhead for a boat is alot different then our shee's. Chrome or Nickel cyls, stuff like that. You know the old saying. Opinions are like assholes. We all hav'em and they all stink!
  17. I know who your talking about and he is extremely helpful and knowledgable but everytime I ask a question the only answer I get is " check the search function' Well I checked the search function until my but was sore and cant find anyone running even close to a 70 pilot, which leads me to believe that i'm running fat off the pilot. It also doesnt help that I have some unknown port job from some company that used to be called "krank it" from Montezuma, NY, wherever the hell that is?
  18. How the hell did you get your hands on a new set of 916's? They stopped making them years ago. I ordered them from a few places that had them "in stock" then got a phone call from the company saying they made a mistake and they didnt have them anymore. Anyway, hope you get them, there an awesome pipe. As far as differences I dont think there are too many besides the silencer. They do sound sick though!
  19. I got the fuel leak fixed by adjusting the float height so thats all good. I also took the slack out of the throttle cable but she still wont idle unless I crank the adj on the throttle in enough to actually lift the slide. I know theres and idle adjustment on the PWK and its relative to the pilot jet and after riding the bike I notice that down low the engine seems poppy and not crisp like at higher rpm. I've been searching around at all the posts here on anything to do with idle or a 2 into 1 setup and nobody is running as large a pilot as as the 70 thats in my carb. The bike runs really well but I know it should be smoother and you can hear the exhaust not change as you change throttle position under power. Anyone got any good information for me?
  20. Hey guys, Where is the Coal Region of PA? I live right on the boarder of PA and NY in Sullivan County and was wondering if this would be a good place to go ride from time to time.
  21. Thanks man but were well beyond TORS removal. The motor runs killer just sitting there. Havent ridden it yet because I need to break it in. The problem is that it wont sit and idle on its own unless I keep my finger on the throttle a bit. I forgot the mention that my timing is set at +5.
  22. Hey All, So after a year of building I finally started her up this morning and its sweet! Just need some info on some small problems. First off, heres what i'm running. Some type of MX port job from "Krank It", cool head with 20 cc dome cold comp reading of 150lbs. Greydon 2 into 1 setup with 35 PWK. 200 main, DEK needle set second clip down from top, 70 pilot, 45 slide, air screw 1.5 turns out. Universal K&N clamp on filter. DMC 916 exhaust, v-force reeds and cages , 5/16" fuel line and thats about it. So my first problem is that I have fuel coming out of the carb overflow on the bottom when she's not running. I believe that I just need to adjust my float height, is that correct? Second problem, it wont idle. She started second kick and runs if I just keep my finger on the throttle but wont idle. I dont know where that stupid plastic little idle adj screw should be at. I messed with it but I think i'm way out. Where is a good base setting for that thing? Otherwise, its a sweet day. Both cylinders firing, good, even temp on both sides, alittle too much smoke but I think I went a tad heavy on the pre-mix, 916's sound sweet. Just need to go through my temp cycles and get her re-torqued and broken in so I can play this weekend! Appreciate any help and I searched around for a while but couldnt find the right answers for anyone thats going to brake my balls about the search function....
  23. Hey guys, I should be up and running this weekend so I can check out the local trails that run straight through my property here. If they seem like there worth it and I dont get any hassle from anyone, which I dont think I will since all the kids around here are always riding, then i'll put up a post to see if anyone wants to come up and ride here. The big neighborhood bus company is moving out and I dont want the neighbors to get used to the quiet anytime soon! I'm only about 2 hrs from the city or Jersey so its not a bad day trip.
  24. Amen to that brother. If theres anyone here thats never done anything illegal or just plain fucking wrong, got cought, then complained about getting cought then they ought to be wearing a white collar and fondleing little boys in the confessional booth! Lets all lighten the fuck up, this is a message board for fucks sake, if you dont like what your reading then hit the big "X" in the top right corner of your screen and it all goes away, then go punch your old lady if your that upset and see how that works out for ya! Now lets get back to talking about the amazing performance gains of boost bottles.....
  25. Looking for an EEK needle for the 35 PWK. Anyone got one laying around they can part with? PM me or drop an e-mail jgocke01@aol.com
