For pure HP, I would be looking at bigger carbs (34 - 35 mm)... And are you sure your pipes are optimal for your set-up?

1. RTFM... Seriously, though, you ought to consider downloading the free manual on this site. It will be indespensible. Most of the after-market timing platesw have instructions on how to set them up. I am basically in the same boat, with a new-to-me Banshee. I had to learn how to adjust the stock carbs quickly, and it has been a fun process. They are very easy to work on (especially once you rip that TORS sh*t off...). Buy the Bansheee, and have fun...

OK, I'm embarassed, but gonna ask...

Cool! Thanks for all the info. My motor is basically stock, but when I need to go through it, I'll probably start with the cool heads/smaller domes/porting and maybe larger carbs. I know that engine work is a slippery slope--once you get started, its probably difficult to say "enough..." -

Ahhh...Makes a lot of sense now. Good for drag racing or fast duning, but probably not the best for lugging it? It took a bit to get used to my Banshee out on the big Dunes--I can't be lazy on it like I can with the KFX. :geek: -
Sorry guys--I just keep reading references to a "Cub motor.." Is that like a special dune/drag block or something? I know, I know--I'm a complete noob to Shee's...

OR the Dremel and the carbon cutting wheel... :geek:

Sucks to hear, although its great to hear that he'll make a full recovery. Like was mentioned above, we all assume a certain amount of risk when we jump on one of these thigns, and we make our own decisions. My friends sometimes get pissed when I have a new toy, or a newly revamped one, and I won't let them ride it for a while--but I like to wring something out myself before I let them anywhere near it. It really is both for their protection, and to make sure I've ironed out any bugs...

Sweet! Thanks!!

Need more gas for those long rides

Sounds almost too good to be true... -
Anyone know a good website or forum for Blasters? I have a little blaster that I bought for the kids/wife (she has since "graduated" to a Raptor 350 [the Blaster will kick it's ass all day long.. ], but that's a different story...) that is in need of some love. I'm doing the top-end on it now (apparently, they don't like to be over-revved in high heat conditions, in first, going up a dune...), and want to do a carb, intake, and suspension. It has a an FMF pipe, and is jetted, but since I'm redoing it anyway, I want to make it a little nicer. TIA!!!

What's wrong with an after-market plastic gas tank with more capacity? Your stock tank is plastic... I have an IMS tank in my Kawi and unless you know what you're looking for, you can't tell I have one more gallon of fuel capacity. Pluse, the billet receiver and cap look freakin' trick! I don't know what they look like for the Banshee, but they must be similar? Adding weight to the rear can adversely impact handling, and as some have pointed out, it doesn't seem very safe (I hate riding with a friend on his Z400 when he straps on a cooler--it seems as if I have to worry too much about the cooler than enjoy the ride--that thing falls off all the time). -
Kawi KFX450R... Yeah, okay, so I'm a bit biased... but my Kawi rips!!! With a full system, an EFI controller, and a new intake (they need those BAD), it is an animal!!! It handles better than my shee, and is almost as fast (maybe faster in some instances?)... Nothing sounds better than a 2-stroke wail to me, though, and the turbo-like feel when it comes on the pipe is freakin' addictiing, so a Shee will always have a spot in my garage...

Airbox? Stock carbs? What main jet? Pilot jet? I have T5's with stock carbs, no air box, running K&N's with Prefilters. I am using 290 mains, 27.5 pilots, and the needle is on the third clip (a little richer) from the top... Unless your main jets are huge and you're soaking your plugs, bogging can be because its lean on the needle...

Battle of the 28's... Mikuni TM or Keihin PWK ?

That's good information--whay aren't you running them anymore? -

I hate the fooking stock carbs!! They, and the TORS turds that sit on top SUCK! Okay, got that off my chest... That monstrosity that sits atop the stock carbs is making my life miserable, so I am going to dump the stockers and replace them with either a set of Keihins or a set of Mikunis. Anyone have anypros/cons either way? I did a whole lot of reading using the search function, and although I found many more entries for the Keihins, nobody seemed to have anything negative to say about either carb. A couple of Q's: Will I be able to use my stock intake boots with either set-up? Will my K&N individual pod filters fit? How easy are they to tune? Set the idle? Sync? I am running a basically stock Shee with T5s and individual K&N pods... Thanks!!!!

Well, now it is hard to start! Argh!!!! I made sure the floats were at 21mm, made sure I have fuel going down each line, I made sure the choke tube is connected to both carbs... am I missing something?!?! There are two lines coming from the crank case (front and rear)--do these go anywhere? Otherwise, I have no overflow lines on the carbs...

And what, exactly, is wrong with your Banshee? Your'Shee is Bad-Ass! Matter of fact, if you get to building your ultimate Shee, I'll lighten the load by buying your SE....

Took the offending carb apart last night, and found that the needle jet was a little too "springy," causing the float not to seat all the way. The other float lay nice and flat when inverted... So I bought a carb re-build kit. I know I should have bought the pair, but the shop only had one in stock. I'm planning to head out to Glamis this weekend, so I'll see how she does. Stock reeds, T5's, individual K&Ns with pre-filters, 290 mains and 25 pilots. Needle on the third clip. In any event, I'd like to look into a set of V3 reeds (if you have a set...) and a set of 28-30mm K&N or Oko's (from CPW)... Thanks again!!

Thank you guys very much!!!

Carb upside down, measure from the carb to the top (highest point) of the float, right? How many mm should it be (stock needles, 290 mains, T5's)? Thanks!!!

Yeah, I was a little pissed after driving all the way to Pismo Sunday morning and not being able to run my 'Shee!! I had to settle for the Kawi (fun, but not like the 'Shee... ) If I do not get these running right, I may just throw in the towel and jump on a set of Keihin's...

I replaced the main jets (up to 290's from 240's--running T5's and individual K&N pods), ran the mixture screw out 1.5 turns, etc. I bolted everything up, turned the fule on, and... the right-hand carb starts leaking from the overflow. I pull it apart, thinking it might be a stuck float, visually inspect everything, and do it again. Again it leaks. The float seems to be working fine, I'm pretty sure I have routed the fuel lines properly, and I don't see anything wrong in the float bowl area. Am I missing something? Does anyone have a close-up pic of the way the fuel lines/balancing bar stuff is routed? Should I just give up and go with a set of Keihin 30mm's? Thanks!!

Check this one out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Bans...tem140217149871 (no affiliation, etc.). It is cheap...

Looking for Decent Exhaust for '06 SE... Tips?
Erwin8r replied to Erwin8r's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I'm at sea level (near Los Angeles, CA). Ok, now it get's interesting. I'll yank the carbs off tonight and verify what's inside... Good ball park for sea level? Good jet kit recommendation? I'm used to buying Dynojet or Factory jet kits for street bikes (or was.. all the new EFI stuff made PCIII's rule I guess...).
