October 4th Fall HQ ride BADLANDS Indiana
Whitbread replied to WINDYCITYJOHN400's topic in Riding and Events Forum
I know I've missed the other trips this year, but I will be there for this trip! The bike is finally together and running freaking awesome. Will be bringing a buddy with a 400ex. -
I'd be all over this if I wasn't in the middle of moving. Bike isn't set up for drag at all, but it should put a hurting on a few 4 pokes. DAMNIT!

Turbocharged and fuel injected banshee........

^ Trying to make your own TSS 90° crank huh? -
EFI kit - How much legit interest?

Ok, lets make this a little more clear. If you're interested, please specify one of the 3 following options. I need to know what to design/manufacture. #1 - 38mm TB for stock reed cage pattern #2 - 46mm TB for DM or Cheetah #3 - 50+mm billet TB for whatever the heck you're running. -

The complete rack of 46mm GSXR TB's can be picked up for $100-140 off fleabay, new boots are $20 each - only need 2. Hence why I'm asking if there's enough justification in spending 4+X the cost for another 5 or 6mm or TB size. NOS is easy, microsquirt has inputs for nos control, so it will adjust timing and fueling to whatever you tell it when you hit the go button. Ms also has inputs for launch control/2 step for all you drag guys. -

Direct mount is a good idea. I like it! Should simplify things too for machining/fittijg. If people are actually willing to pay an estimated $400-600 for a custom billet pair of huge tb's, I have no problem having them made. -

Just FYI, anything over 46mm is going to get very spendy very quick as it will have to be custom. 46mm is the largest easily available 4 piece tb assembly from the early gsxr 750 or busa for under $150 for the whole rack. It needs to be a 4 piece so the center two can be taken out and the end ones have your throttle cable and tps. Mattoon has offered to make any size tb's, just be prepared as they wouldn't be cheap. Then again if you have a 20dm its not exactly a cheap setup period so its up to you guys. -

Sounds good. So still, what TB size? 42mm or 46mm? -

What are they though? CR250? yz250? If I tell Mattoon to do DM and cheetah ones, there's only one possible option for each and it couldn't get messed up? I'm just trying to eliminate any costly manufacturing mistakes. I don't know squat about the big drag cylinders other than they're not for my uses. -

Cad drawings and some TB's for mockup have been sent to Mattoon and should have some adapter plates in short order for the R6 to stock reed cage pattern. I'm going to do a second set of adapter plates for buys with big motors. So tell me now; what reed cage pattern and what size TB do you want? I'm only looking to do 2 options, 38mm R6 units for stock reed pattern, and a big setup for the crazy guys. -
You get what you pay for with a crank plain and simple. This is the crank I'll be buying when I do a 10 mil pv motor http://www.bansheedepot.com/proddetail.asp?prod=91-5706 . If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Pretty much, it's spinning tires hard in 4th gear on hard dirt road. Finally hooks in 5th and 6th. Not bad for a lil' 350 with "low rev" pt pipes
-
Just went out on a data logging run, the 450 brake setup will almost throw you over the bars with one finger at 95mph haha.
-
Couldn't be happier with the yfz450 front calipers and master. Ran dual lines from the master. Leaps and bounds better than OE banshee crap. Should've done it ages ago!

Turbocharged and fuel injected banshee........
Whitbread replied to tyrel's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Now that I got my last tuning quirk ironed out thanks to your tip, I can only imagine how much of a beast your bike is with boost. My throttle response is straight up violent now. If I ever find an aerocharger for the right price I just might have to jump on it..... -
which brand makes a good oversize gast tank?
Whitbread replied to banshee den's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Clarke FTW! Yes, you will need either a longer stem or riser. -
I wasn't a huge fan of the look of oversize tanks at first, but after just one weekend with my 5.5 gallon Clarke I'll never go back to stock. I did need to extend my steering stem though to get bars to clear at full lock, but I wanted to raise it anyway so killed 2 birds with one stone. It was so nice to be able to ride the 40 mile loop around my cabin outside of lewiston with over 1/3 tank left. My tune is still rich in the cruising range so mpg will only improve from here.

I think people are going to start listening more now with both Evan and I having running MS setups. What's really cool with the microsquirt is you can run MS2 code in it; that gives you an ITB mapping mode where it blends speed density and alpha N. Normal microsquirt code doesn't give that option. So you get the best of both worlds without trying to blend tables on your own. Tweaking the switch points has been a bit of a pain, but I have it basically figured out now. I tried speed and alpha N on their own and the ITB mode definitely runs the best. The old Gigiot systems must've been strictly alpha-N to not compensate for temp or elevation.

Here's my bike with white fullbore rears, natural clarke tank, white maier rad surround, and cut oem white fronts. I lengthed my stem 1.5" plus the fat bar adapters. As for lights, it's hard to beat LED's nowadays. This is two vision x 25 watt light cannons and two vision x solstice 10 watt units on the handlebars.
-
That's really odd that whatever efi setup you had didn't correct for temp and elevation. No wonder why it was temperamental! That is literally 90% of the benefit of it Haha. My microsquirt setup copmentsates automatically for elevation and temp. I was actually going to run a pair of smart carbs, but I want to switch between e85 and pump gas whenever, so MS with flex fuel sensor got the nod.

Been talking back and forth with a few people, looks like 2 main setups are needed here. The R6 bodies I used are 38mm, but a few guys with 485+cc motors want bigger. I'm going to come up with a second TB option in the 42-46mm range, looking like a GSXR750 is the likely candidate. -

Tricked is right. And compared to what people spend on motor builds, hand coned pipes, billet carbs, etc, it's not bad at all. Here's the current throttle response in second. It's still pig rich as plugs are wet when I pull them out. I have maybe 2 hours into tuning at this point. I know I spent more time tuning carbs with less impressive results haha. -

It wouldn't have to be the same reed cage pattern. What do all the big cylinders use? cr/yz250 right? Once the common 2 or 3 reed cages patterns are identified, would just be a case of making the aluminum adapter manifold the right pattern for whatever you have. For small run stuff like this, its cheaper to CNC vs paying someone like UPP to make molds and mold custom boots. Microsquirt can do up to 4 ignition channels so you're covered there, but it only has 2 injector channels. So to be able to do sequential fuel injector control, you would have to step up to a MS3 unit. The MS3 is $300 more than a microsquirt, but if you have a turbo triple that's a drop in the bucket. In theory it should get slightly better as you can lean out your light load areas. WFO consumption is going to stay the same as you're still targeting the same A/F ratio. Bingo. Whipping out the laptop for a datalog and subsequent map tweaking is much faster than changing jets. Timing will be adjusted with boost, etc, etc. -

Tuner studio has an auto tune function to it where you write an Afr table and it will modify your ve table to suit. However, you must be lean enough where you won't foul the 02 sensor so some initial rough tuning must be done the old fashioned way by feel and plugs. Since you can change fuel amounts while its running, its super quick to see if you went the right or wrong way with a tweak. I'll discuss more when I'm not typing on a phone. -

Triple wouldn't be a problem, just a touch more work on your end as some custom spacers between TB's might need to be made up and obviously larger injectors and fuel pump. If you have different than stock reed cage pattern would also require a new manifold, but that pattern should already be in cad from either mattoon or chariot if it's something common. Just would run two of the coils as a pair with one wasted and third on it's own. Wouldn't be much additional cost, maybe 300-400. I don't deal with boosted banshees often, but mess with a turbo or two. Boosted isn't an issue as stated earlier. Very easy to add. Draw through carb has all kinds of odd quirks that don't help turbo finicky bikes. Not even going to discuss. Read above for approx cost and ecu type. People spend way more money on way sillier things for less power gains. Look in my build thread in images forum for videos of it running.
