  1. You scared me. I'm from Wisconsin and I just picked up some new tires and rims that bring my width to 50". I found this post while looking to see what (if anything) I'm gonna break having the tires hang that far off the axle. I did a little digging, and they changed it from 48" to 50" a while back. http://dnr.wi.gov/news/weekly/Article_Lookup.asp?id=1284 On a side note, I haven't found a good solution to the license plate requirement, just a functional solution. Have you found a good place to mount it?
  2. I finally broke down and picked up a tors removal kit, and will be installing it in the next week or two. I've never used a tap, however I have seen them used a few times, but I have a few questions. What kind of lube/oil should I use and where can I get it. I've done some research, and gotten answers ranging from wd40 to engine oil to 3 in 1 oil to specialty aluminum cutting oils to beeswax. Also, any tips/tricks for using a tap? I'm fairly mechanically inclined (gotta be to love a banshee) so I don't foresee it being a problem, but I prefer being as prepared as possible before I tackle anything new. Thanks for the advice in advance. Also, any tips/tricks for repacking silencers or just follow the instructions? (first time for that too)...lol
  3. I'll be trying to get the stuff to repack them in the next few days...I'm normally not available during normal business hours, so it could be a bit. Thanks for the advice, and I'll let you all know how it turned out. I know it was kind of a silly question, but I was a little worried about it...feel much better now.
  4. I was wound out in 6th, moving quick, then pulled off the trail into a parking lot/intersection/play area, saw some smoke behind me on the trail, then I revved the motor while looking at the tailpipes and had a truly massive blow of smoke come out (filled most of the intersection). I shut it down to think and have a smoke, and when I restarted it...no smoke at all, and none the whole way back (about 30 min.) the time in the mudhole this spring, I went into it in 4th, came out in 1st with the nose in the sky for the last 30-40 feet (the hole caught me offguard...loggers make messes in weird places)
  5. running 32:1...haven't changed that in a long time. I do blip the throttle when I wind it up...never feels right to hold it wide open for more than a few seconds at a time...something I've always done and never known why. I just checked my owner's manual...couldn't find anything about repacking stock silencers...I did pull them apart though...cleaning the sparky was listed. very oily in there, with not much burnt on buildup. looks like that could be it...so do you think the oil in there from just putting around w/ the kids, or is there something else wrong. what would be the easiest way to clean it out? If there is no major problems, I would favor an hour or 2 going up and down some of the high speed trails over cleaning by hand. thanks for the ideas...keep 'em coming...I would like to be pretty sure what's going on, so any new ideas are welcome
  6. This will be a long explanation for a simple question...sorry in advance. I went on a ride a few weeks ago, and towards the end of the ride, I noticed that It was smoking from both pipes a little. I bought this 'shee new, and other than a little smoke on startup, it rarely smokes...normally only when putting around the yard for 30 or more minutes giving the kids rides, and then only a little. It got me thinking about a ride this spring, went through a long mudhole, cranking on it pretty good, and when I looked back there was a cloud over the hole. I wasn't sure I saw it, so I didn't think anything of it till now. I went out for another ride this week, and decided to take the same route as last time...found a great stretch of trail, and wanted to make sure I remember where it is. I got to the same place I noticed the smoke last time, and when i turned around to look, there was a HUGE cloud behind me. Right before that, I was on a nice stretch where I had it pinned in 6th for about 30-40 seconds. There was no smoke before that, and after shutting it down, taking a 5 min. break, and getting going again, there was no smoke the rest of the way back to the trailer. Most of these trails are 4th gear, jump/turn/jump again/climb a hill kind of trails, so I was riding pretty aggressively all day. Power felt perfectly normal...never missed a beat. Is there something going on with having it wound up in the high rpm's that would cause smoke where full throttle at lower rpm's for shorter times doesn't, and I just never noticed it before, or am I looking at having to do some motor work? (my guess) I bought it a little over 4 years ago new, and the motor has never been opened, so I'm expecting to have to do something to the topend soon, just based on time ridden. If I do have to do some work, any ideas what I should be looking at first? I'm torn between hoping shee's perfectly ok, and pretty sure shee's starting to show her age. Thanks for any advice and help...I gotta make sure she's 100% by the middle of next month...I'm taking a week off, and I can't afford to make it to the ride with everyone at little sahara, but I will be camping and riding that weekend a little closer to home.
  7. Thanks guys...helped put my mind at ease. I'm not riding it until I get that clip replaced, but I'm glad I didn't do any damage...cleaning is easy and cheap, and I had planned it anyways. TORS removal is on my short list...just haven't gotten around to it...guess this is the spur I needed to get it done.
  8. Went on a ride today....took it easy for the first hour (riding partner's recovering from having his kidney taken out and not supposed to ride at all), took a break (idling normally) then took off nice and hard by myself for about 10 min. When I got to an intersection on the trail and slowed down...noticed that it was idling REALLY high. I looked it over and found the right carb cap completely off and dangling (TORS leaning weirdly) I put the cap on and tightened it by hand the best I could and took it easy getting back to the trailer...took about 25 min. I stopped to check the cap every couple of minutes...and it didn't come lose again. My figuring is that the cap could have been off for up to 10 min., but probably less than 2 min. I was in clean air through this time period (no dust/water/mud/etc.) It started right up after putting the cap back on and idled normally...no smoking from either pipe. It seemed to run fine, but I basically crept back to the trailer, so I didn't get to check how the power feels. Started up fine when I got home too. Any idea if I did any damage, what kind of damage I might have done, or what to look for in the future as far as diagnosing any damage I did with this ride? Also...does anyone have a spare little piece and screw from a stock carb that locks the cap on the right carb....mine's laying in the dirt somewhere.
  9. I love that quote myself...one of the best. I asked my friend for permission to post the pics and vid...don't wanna step on his toes if he doesn't want them up or if he wants to put them up himself. He did put them up on facebook, so I think he's ok with sharing...should have them soon. I'm dieting right now...I told him having organs removed was cheating.
  10. Thanks for all the get well wishes...he appreciates it. He's home now, and in his last update to me was whining about "making love hurts"...lol. He still can't stand up completely straight. He's gonna be fine, doctor told him it will be 6 weeks before he can ride again...so he will be trying in a month I'm sure. (he doesn't like to be told he can't do things) His scar is truly impressive...there is a vertical line by his right kidney, and they wrapped a line around his front, over his bellybutton, and just about to his left side...it goes about 3/4 around him.
  11. final update...he ripped his right kidney in half and lost 3 pints of blood before the surgery, but didn't puncture the skin. They took the kidney out, and they are keeping him for 5ish days for recovery and because they are worried about his liver...they think it's fine, but it's very close to where there was some major damage. He's out of the woods, but it's gonna be a long recovery.
  12. I'm not sure how you fracture a kidney...but that's what the doctors told his fiance right before they took him into surgery....they were saying puncture before that. He actually asked to go to the ER....said he wanted them to give him some vicodin...I actually didn't think it was that bad until he started shaking when we got close to town.
  13. update...he has a "fractured kidney"??? It is being removed.
  14. The local trails opened yesterday, and my riding partner and myself got out today for a few hours. Beautiful weather, machines running great, and about 4 hours into the ride he pulls the bonehead move of all time. He pulled out his camera and started taking video while he was riding. He's done this before, so I wasn't too worried, but while we were on the road between trails, he decided he wanted video of his quad riderless. He swung his leg over and stood up both feet on the right footpeg, leaned out, and started taking video of his quad instead of paying attention to the road(driving with 1 hand, camera in the other). It took less than 30 seconds for him to creep toward the ditch, and when he realized it and jerked away, he fell/jumped off, hit the ground running in the ditch (about 25mph), fell headfirst and rolled, and landed like a pretzel. I checked him out, got his quad out of the ditch and running (kickstarting a 450r that isn't jetted right is a bitch), and we limped our way back to the trailer, loaded, and got him to the hospital. He didn't look to bad...some road rash, torn pants, and maybe some bruised ribs...but it was almost 2 hours from the crash until he got to the ER, and he was going into shock by then. There were some cut 1" trees in the ditchline about 12-18 inches long, and he thought he missed them...he didn't. Internal bleeding, puncture in his kidney, and a "flight for life" trip to a trauma center about 50 miles away. They say he's going to be fine, but any wellwishes or good thoughts would be appreciated. One bonehead move, and him and his family are going to have some problems for a while....kinda sucks. After watching him crash though, I can guarantee that his helmet saved his life, so there's something to be thankful for. (p.s. when he gets the video uploaded, I'll get a link to it here)
  15. Personally, I greatly appreciate the heads up about the customer service. I believe that you can tell a lot about a company by how it solves problems, and treating ANY customer poorly is inexcusable. I decided a long time ago that I won't spend my money with a company that can't take care of it's customers.
  16. my old shee had 22's, the one I have now has 20's. I never had a problem bottoming out with the 22's, and I will be putting a set on my new one as soon as I can afford it. I bottom out with the 20's constantly. I should mention that I'm a bigger guy(250). I went up to 22's in the front also, and that really helps in the looks department when you pair it with 22's in the rear.
  17. I'm curious where you are too....not too many banshees near me...I've only seen 4, owned 2 of those, and heard of 2 more...would love to meet up for a ride
  18. I noticed that grab bar too...I definately want one...they look great.
  19. thanks to everyone...I have a set coming...just hoping they get here in time.....
  20. I'm not that far north either, I'm about 2 1/2 hours north of Madison.

    stock carb

This is going to sound stupid, but does anyone out there have a bowl for a stock carb that holds gas( they could sell and ship quick? I've had a stupid problem. I'm hoping to get one in and on before next tuesday. Looking for something reasonable shipped to 54452. Thanks
  22. I just tore it apart, cleaned it, filled the bowl with gas, and let it sit. There is a small crack in the bowl...on the front right below the little brass ball bearing looking thing coming straight down from it. Now I'm wondering if anyone out there has a bowl for a stock carb they could sell me fast...I have a ride next tuesday I need to be ready for. I parked her 2 months ago, and when I pulled her out there was a cut in the sidewall of one of the front tires, and this....feels like someone borrowed her without asking, but I don't know who would have.
  23. I just went out and spent 5 min. staring at it with the gas on, and saw the gas dripping from the bottom of the carb, not the overflow. I rubbed the front side of the bowl and found gas. I'm thinking/hoping that the screws that hold the bowl on maybe came a little loose...any thoughts or other ideas?
  24. I just put new front tires on her and took her for a quick spin (5 min.). Started easily and ran great. I didn't turn the gas off when I was done, and about 5 minutes after I parked it I noticed a puddle under the left carb. I haven't touched the carbs since aprilish, and I've had no problems untill now that I noticed. From looking on the forums, it looks like the float needs to be adjusted, but I'm looking for all ideas of what it could be, because I'm only going to have 1 day to fix this before my next outing because of work, and if it isn't the float, I need to know what else to look for. I have a few days before I can get to it, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  25. Restaurant manager - I've been best friends with the owner since kindergarten...you can't ask for more job security than that
