  1. I have some pics. My banshee crapped out on me, so I just brought my rail (the red one). Someone in a rail crashed pretty badly jumping Saturday and the occupants had to be airlifted. At least that was what I was told.
  2. Better put that bike to good use!
  3. True. I guess I got excited seeing that others were going the same time as I was...
  4. This will be my last update. A poster on this forum that lives near me was kind enough to take a look at my quad. He noticed that oil was starting to leak out of the right cylinder (the one that is emitting the most exhaust) right where the pipe and the cylinder meet. Also, he found that the transmission oil was abnormally low, despite my checking it a week earlier and seeing that it was fine. He came to the conclusion that my engine broke a crank seal and that the transmission oil was being sucked into the right cylinder. This explains perfectly why I lost top end performance
  5. I am not afraid to take the top end apart. I am attempting to diagnose a problem in time to fix it before I go to Glamis Friday morning. If I start to take the top end apart then I will not be able to take the quad out this weekend. I am just hoping that the problem can be fixed a lot easier than opening the engine up. Do you believe a messed up ring could cause a drop in performance in the top end of the power band, but allow the bike to act normally in the low end and mid range of the power band? That is my problem. Nothing else is noticeable, even sound from the cylinders. Thanks for the insight.
  6. Is it possible for a piston ring to be messed up and still have perfect compression in both cylinders? Has anyone seen it? I have looked at everything else I can think of but I still have hesitation on the top end of the power band on a bike that has previously kicked ass for the last year. And I haven
  7. I will be there the 26th - 28th whether my quad is running or not. I think we'll be at wash 11 or so.
  8. I have an update. I took off the intake boots and inspected them. It didn
  9. I have met up with a few cool guys once back in Feb. It never hurts to meet up with more for a good ride, especially since I am only going out there with one other dude this time (who is riding a bike). And congrats on the kid! You are turning into a family man. Soon you'll have to buy a toy hauler to sleep in.
  10. Man... I almost missed this. I was asking about this in the Sand forum without any answers. I'll be out there 26th-28th, hopefully with my quad running! See my thread here on my problem. I am bringing my rail too, so I will have something to cruise in. So are people meeting up somewhere at a particular time?
  11. Is anyone else besides docbones and myself going to be out there during 26th-28th? I am also planning on going out Nov 9th-11th.
  12. Nope, no airbox! Next big step is seeing what new intake boots and a real crossover tube does.
  13. The thing is that I have always tested it with the filters off and it ran perfectly. I have never noticed a difference between having them on or off. But it cannot hurt to try. I'll also look more closely at how it runs with the choke on. Good advice there. The slides move up and down in unison. I have never messed with that, fortunately. I am going to the stealership tomorrow to order new intake boots and a crossover tube. Even if it isn't the problem, I need to get rid of the boost bottle and the harm it has already done.
  14. I would suggest asking your question about jetting in the Jetting and Exhaust forum. I think you'll get better responses there.
  15. But in the two years or so that I have had it, small test runs on the street without filters never did any damage. I mean, I only run it one minute tops. Plus, I know my carbs are clean and my compression is fine.
  16. I am planning on going out there the 26th-28th with my friend who rides a dirtbike, but I am also bringing my rail. Hopefully I can fix my quad before I head out. See my thread on the problem here. If I can get the quad running okay, I wouldn't be opposed to a big ride.
  17. Sorry 50 was a mistake. I forgot the 1. I have 150 exactly in each cylinder. I was running my quad on the street, so I don't think dirt could have gotten in the carbs that easily. At least I hope not. This place was about 7,500 feet, and I usually run at Glamis. But I put the original jets back in the quad, which (in the past) my quad screamed with. So is the type of behavior I described typical of being too lean?
  18. Here's another one for you guys. Okay, I have had my quad for a couple years and it has run beautifully. So this summer my family went on vacation at a new place and I re-jetted it as best I could before heading up to a higher elevation. I did pretty well guessing on the jetting, but it ran a little sluggish wide open. I figured then it was just because of minor jetting issues. I guess it still could have been. After the trip, I put the right jets back in, cleaned the carbs and all. Then I started it up and ran it down the street. Low end was fine. Mid range was fine. But when I hit the top end of the power band, the part where it is supposed to try to rip my arms off, I had nothing. So I fiddled with the air fuel adjustment, setting it back to two turns out from closed and went from there. I couldn't fix the problem, so I figured some dirt must have gotten into the jets. I re-cleaned the jets, assembled, and bam. Worse than before! Terrible throttle response, wouldn't rev that high and sounded terrible. Plus it didn't want to start very easily. I have made sure the jets are correct. I checked compression, a perfect 150 in each cylinder. I changed my spark plugs. Each cylinder is firing. I have gas. I have oil in the case. I was doing all the aforementioned adjustments without an air filter on, so I know the engine had air. I replaced the fuel lines going to the carbs and I know it is getting fuel. So I started looking around my engine hoping for something to stare me in the face. Now, I have a boost bottle. Yes, I know they blow, but it came with my quad and I never bothered to take it off. I remembered what others had said. Boost bottles = cracked intake boots = lean out engine. My intake boots have some cracks on them around the bottle, but they were always small. Maybe the cracks have finally penetrated? Is there a way to tell? My question is this: what do you think is causing my performance problems? Is there anyone out there that has experienced cracked boots from a boost bottle, and do you remember the symptoms? This is bugging the hell out of me, and I have plans to go out to Glamis on the 26th! Thanks for the help guys.
  19. Yeah... unfortunately. I just don't get why there isn't any aftermarket support in that area yet. What also sucks is that because of the fuel pump in the gas tank, no company is even touching it to make an oversized version. Does anyone know how many watts you can get out of a stator? I have seen 275 watt banshee stators, but I wonder if that is the max. About the HID's: I was planning on adding about 4 of them. I want like Baja 1000 light coming off my rig.
  20. I was wondering if anyone knew of a company that produced custom, high output stators. Currently, no one makes a high output stator for the Raptor 700. Unfortunately, I like really bright lights. Someone help me out!
  21. Why is that? I want all the info I can get about this... I want to make a good decision.
  22. Thanks guys. Is the seat height that bad? I know I need to ride one, but it's hard when you don't know anyone that has one.
  23. I am considering getting a Raptor 700 for trails and some duning. How do they compare to the Banshee? It looks like they sit higher, and they will obviously have a different power band. I am looking for evaluations and/or reviews. I figured I'd like the fuel injection and power of the 700. How do they compare to YFZ450's and other 4 stroke quads? Do you recommend an alternative? After I went on a really intense trail ride with my Banshee that left me overheated and stopped ten times over, pushing my quad up hills, I have considered adding a 4 stroke to my crew. Let me know what you guys think.
  24. Sure does! Thanks.
  25. Sounds good. I will definitely do that. But if anyone rides at this level, I sure wouldn't complain if you posted your jetting...
