I think I am going to be out there the weekend of the 4SW with my '08 Raptor.
-
Man... very little love for the twist throttle here. Mine was sketchy at first, but I got used to it. You really have to be careful at first. Now I wouldn't run without one.
-
It takes some getting used to, but I love mine.
-
Sounds cool! I am going out this weekend and then again on the 11th.

That was actually a photoshop that Dirtwheels magazine did as a joke on April fool's. There are a few threads here about it.
-
Oh, and some dude in the link below says he called Yamaha and they confirmed working on the "500 Banshee." I don't know how much stock to place in that though... http://forums.atvconnection.com/messagevie...adid/514435.cfm

I tried locating a picture of the Phazer engine, but I couldn't find one. If anyone has one, post it! I have no clue what it looks like. EDIT: I found some pics. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-2007...bayphotohosting The engine doesn't look too big. Although, with my limited knowledge about snowmobiles, I doubt it has a transmission.
-
I agree. I don't think the proposed machine should carry the Banshee name. It wouldn't be right.

"Negatism" isn't a word. And while we are correcting each other's grammar, neither is "u" or "ur." Have a nice day.

I don't understand the negativism. The whole point of this thread was to address how similar the power band of street bike engines are to two stroke engines, and how awesome it would be to use a street bike engine as a platform for the engine of "the new Banshee." I used the Hayabusa as an example because it is currently the most powerful production street bike engine. Period. If you don't agree, whatever. I don't care.

Haha. It's cool dude! My whole idea sort of reminds me of the April fool's joke that Dirtwheels pulled. They mentioned that Yamaha was going to put their Phazer snowmobile engine into the "new Banshee." The engine is a 500cc twin cylinder 4 stroke beast that puts out 80 horsepower and revs out to 11,000 RPM.
-
They wouldn't have to. They have their own street bike technology. But as far as I know, none of their stuff comes close to the power that the Hayabusa produces. So I figured maybe they could use the engine for inspiration. I just looked up the numbers on their R1 bike. http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/2007/146_0...o/photo_01.html I guess their 2007 model put out 158 horsepower. If you half that, it would be 78. That would be a screamer. I have a Hayabusa engine in a sandrail. I don't know if you have ever experienced their power before, but they are FAST. Since the Hayabusa has the most powerful stock engine in production, I think it's a worthy benchmark for comparison.
-
The Suzuki Hayabusa (street bike) has a 200 horsepower engine in it. If you cut the engine in half (2 cylinders instead of 4), you would still have around 100 horsepower. I think Yamaha should use the Hayabusa engine as a blueprint and make a 2-cylinder version of it, and throw it in a quad. Just think about it. You'd have the same power band (huge power in the high RPM's) in a 4-stroke engine. They could tone the engine down a bunch and still have a lot of power. Maybe someday...

Indeed. Perfect picture. SEARCH!
-
Wow. A ton of people are going Easter. No one is going the week after!
-
Well, sorry to disappoint everyone (ha!), but I am probably not even going now. Turns out my bike needs some work. Oh well.
-
No one is heading out there, huh?

About a year ago I saw a post on here from a member that explained how he got ticketed at Glamis for not having spark arrestors. So it happens. http://store.albaaction.com/Merchant2/merc...;Category_Code= I bought two of the above products, cut them into shape, and put them into my T5's. It took some work, but I made them fit. They even come with stickers that say, "USFS approved spark arrestor." Now I can't get busted.
-
Ouch.
-
I MIGHT go. I am not sure if my bike will be fixed by then or (since I am going out on the 29th) if I want to pack everything up and go twice within two weeks.
-
I am going out to Glamis with a buddy who rides a dirtbike on the 29th - 31st. My Banshee has been down for awhile so I am pretty stoked. I am also bringing my rail. Will anyone else be out there? Since it's just my buddy and I, it would be cool to have others to ride with.
-
I went out mid October last year. During the day it was 95 degrees. It was killer. My buds and I just melted under our canopy and only had a couple of rides. One of the nights I had heat exhaustion, had a major headache and threw up big time because I didn't drink enough fluids. What sucked was that I still had to ride my machine back to camp with a throbbing head and nausea. I really wouldn't suggest going out there when it's hot unless you have a badass trailer with air conditioning and don't mind staying inside and watching movies during the day.
-
Pismo is amazing during the summer when Glamis is too hot to visit. You cannot beat duning in 65 degree temps. The downsides are that the sand is harder and choppier, the place is way small and people are more concentrated. If the weather is doable at Glamis, there's no way I'd waste a trip going to Pismo. Of course, the travel time to both are equal for me. I can imagine how people who live closer to Pismo than Glamis could have a different opinion.

Nah... With the help of a fellow poster I discovered that I blew a crank seal and the right cylinder was sucking in tranny oil. The problem was getting worse, so I just decided to leave the machine at home. I have to split the cases now!
