  1. Alright! I got the Tool to hold the clutch hub and install the nut. I was told by one of the bike mechanics not to use an impact wrench and that the torque was important...so all is on. Now for the next nut to tighten... I think I screwed up by installing the clutch plates before torqueing down the nut on the primary gear mounted to the crankshaft...so... #1 Do I remove the clutch and springs...and whatnot to use the clutch tool to hold the clutch and keep it from rotating? #2: Is there another easy way to torque down the nut on the primary gear? The motor is out of the bike, so I can't just put it in gear and have the mrs. sit on it. Thanks again...it's coming along...I will post pictures of my progress. L8R, T
  2. Hey ., The cases are all back together...boy oh boy where they a pain The darn studs were rusted in and broke off...but a buddy helped me get them out and installed some kineserts in. As for the clymers, I do have one and have been following it, but somethings aren't very clear. I am getting through this...but it is always to get the advice of my fellow banshee owners Thanks a bunch! T
  3. Thanks, I will take a look into the tool. Any other suggestions/tips/tricks? T
  4. First of all: HAPPY MONDAY This is going to be long but bare with me Please I did do many searches to find posts that answer my questions, but I am not having much luck...so if there is another post that answers my question that you know of, please post the link. I am slowly working on getting my bike back together and I want to make sure that I don't do anything first that I maybe should be holding off on: This includes installing clutch covers, stator covers, etc... I got my cases back together and I am working on installing the new clutch at this time: All the gears are installed (primary, kickstarter, idle, etc) To install the clutch basket, I need to torque down the nut that holds the basket to the shaft...the problem is I don't have anything to hold to keep it from turning... so #1: How can I hold the basket or shaft to torque the nut down? #2: Since I will have this new clutch installed, I plan on using 3 stock springs and 3 of the new springs that came with it (this comes from reading other posts on the HQ)...should I leave the clutch cover off until I get the motor back into the frame to do any adjustments to the clutch? #3: How do I adjust the clutch? Besides the standard adjustment at the perch? #4: Installing the drive sproket: How do you guys hold the shaft to install the sprocket when the motor is not on a bike, so the chain can't hold the gear to keep it from moving? #5: Any other suggestions as to what I need to do first, second, etc? Thanks for your help! HQ members are always there to offer advice in troubled and questioned times! T
  5. Well... Some of my posts to this topic aren't here after the new site renovation (which I love by the way). Here are my jugs after I painted them. I used some high temp paint and covered em with clearcoat. (By the way...I know I still need to cleanup a little overspray where I couldn't mask them completely ) Whatdaya think? Once I start to get my bike back together, I will post pics of the unit along the way. T
  6. Very Cool Oilsmoke! I am ride in Southern Cal/Arizona (Buttercup,Glamis,Gordons). As for the tear down and re-assembly (I would just hate to trash something else too:( That is my bike before I started the tear down and rebuild at the top of a bowl at Buttercup. Like I said...I can't wait to get the new motor in...I am kinda worried about getting the jetting right, but I will play around with it slowly too As for the washer thing... there is a link below to a previous post I read>>> Later, T Shift Shaft Adjustment
  7. OILSMOKE, HMMMMM... Getting more and more worried by the moment (My tranny is stock I am sure (from 93'), so I am wondering if it is worth the upgrade now? If so, should I check dealership, or would you trust a tranny off ebay or HQ? Another thing...did you put the rubber washer and regular washer on the shifter like I have read on the HQ? If so, do you have pics? BTW: Where do you ride? And torque....does it rip like many people say? I am so excited to get mine together, but I want to make sure it is done right the first time. Got any pics of your bike? L8tr, T
  8. Oilsmoke, You are starting to scare me now I too am building a 12 port stroker...I hope I don't strip anything What was the route cause of your failed 2nd gear? I tried to look my tranny over, but didn't notice anything... I hope your bike is running well now Thanks, T
  9. Too funny Nater! I watched it the other day too! It was on a couple times this weekend on Channel 34 or something. So stupid it is funny! Gotta love the mermaid commercial! HAHA! Later Nater, T
  10. Thanks again for the reply Oilsmoke! I just want to make sure that I don't get the bike back together and find out that something is wrong with the transmission (mis-assembled or anything). I just took the transmission out of my old cases and put them into some used cases I bought here on the HQ. So why do you think the bike won't get back to nuetral after shifting down all the gears? Do you think it is because I am not able to spin the clutch as fast as it will normally...or the fact that there is no oil in the case right now? This may be a case (and probably is) of me being overly cautious, but better safe than sorry If you have any further suggestions, tips, or tricks, please share. There have been alot of people reading this, but not many replies, so I don't know if they don't know...want to know...or ??? Thanks again! T
  11. So I bought another adjustment screw because mine had a groove wore into it, but I am still having problems:( I am just trying to make sure that it will go into all gears before I put the cases back together. I can get it to go into all of the gears one direction, but when coming back, I get stuck at 2nd gear. I am spinning the clutch shaft while I am checking this, but I want to make sure that things work properly before I get the things bonded together. Could there be something I am missing? Thanks, T
  12. Thanks Oilsmoke! Does that mean that it doesn't matter how far you screw in the screw, but rather what angle you screw it in? When I turn the screw it does move around, but it doesn't move much and it doesn't seem to ever be equally spaced? Maybe I should purchase a new one? Thanks for the help! Troy
  13. I was just reading about some post about adding a rubber washer to the shift shaft.... so that brings me to my next question: How important is it that you add the plate to hold the clutch shaft in while trying to adjust the shifting? Also, please help me understand how the adjustment screw works Thanks, T
  14. I am in the process of putting my motor together...this is the first time and I am learning alot, but keep running into speedbumps I just got the tranny put into the case and a couple things came up... First the bearing on the countershaft is stuck to the shaft(Looks like it may have rusted on) I still spins fine, but it does feel like there is a little play....I don't know how much is acceptable...so do I need to change this? Next... I was trying to adjust the shift mechanism and I don't understand how the adjust bolt works...It looks like it is just spinning and I don't see how it makes a difference (Please explain ) I tried to adjust it so the gap between the two hooks on either side of the linkage match (wording?), but it doesn't feel like it is shifting normal, and it also feels like it is really hard to shift gears (granted, I am working on a bench, so I don't have leverage with my foot, but it just doesn't seem normal). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! T
  15. Just out of curiousity.... Why do you run with the choke on? T
  16. Could be scary...you never know if you got all of the metal pieces out of there. I had some metal in my crank case...so I split them and there was alot more inside...don't think I could have got it all out by drowning it in fluid and dumping it out. Just my .02:) T
  17. I think the studs are M8's. My studs were stripped, so I borrowed a stud removal tool from my friend. It was a snap-on...really nice one that just uses a socket wrench. BE CAREFULL! I broke 2 of them off and had a third one bend. I had to have a friend remove them and put Kineserts in:( I tried the two nut trick too...but they were rusted in and didn't want to come out...not even with every penetrating oil I could find. Good Luck! T
  18. I would just get some paint from the dealer. They usually have paint to match the original frame paint. My 2 pennies;) T
  19. I used a pair of small vice grips. I knew the screws were toast, so just loosened em up with the vice grips and then turned em out the rest of the way. L8R T
  20. Well Damn! Removing the cylinder mounting studs from my case, two snappped off at the base of the case I was using a stud remover (socket type) and they just sheared off at the base. A third stud began to bend and actually cracked the little ring that (I believe) is used to locate the cylinders to the case. So now what to do. I don't want to try drilling anything out myself (I will probably just end up screwwing it up) I called a couple shops and they say that it can range from $15 to $100. Now that sux Does anybody have any recommendations as to where I can send my top case to in order to fix this at a reasonable price. As for the reason that they sheared off, it looks like they were rusted in...and yes I tried to use multiple penetrators prior to attempting to remove them. The good news is that I got 5 of the 8 out! The bad news is that this is probably going to end up costing me more than it would have been to buy new cases. I am in the San Diego area if anybody has any ideas. Thx, T
  21. You need to go to avator options... If you use the help, it is pretty easy:) T
  22. Well guys, I have some studs on my cases that are stripped and some look a littl' iffy, so I am going to replace them. I read some posts about spraying WD on them, but that didn't help much. I got two of the 8 off, but now the remainders are being a bitch. I was using a pair of vice grips to clamp down on the stud. I tried the double nut trick, but they want to just spin out. I bought a reverse drill bit to try, but I don't know if there is a better solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I know I am not the only one who has ran into the damn problem Thanks in advance! T
