  1. To answer icemans question on, "why run one carb instead of two"? Only one cylinder fires at a time so running double the carburation isn't always the answer. How many V8 cars have you seen with eight carbs or injectors? Other than full blown race cars not too many, right? I love my single CV (Constant Velocity) set-up. Some added benefits are the ease of tuning and jetting, plus it looks cleaner and is easier to clean (if that's worth anything). Rooster PS: My sick mind had the same reaction when I read the post, I thought maybe carb was short for some European chicks name and was about to give him some other ideas on what to do with them.............
  2. I've been running a Yamaha TZ clutch in my bike for about 10 years and it works great too. Just another option. Rooster
  3. Several years ago CT Racing did my head. They took .080 off and did some rechambering work and it ran great. I've heard others say that .080 was/is too much but the bike ran that way for years and I never had a problem. With the latest build (porting, etc) they had to do some additional rechambering work because of that but no big deal. Rooster
  4. Step 1. Loosen the two small lock nuts that point forward. Step 2. Loosen the upper and lower bolts (I think they are 14mm and 17mm) that go through the axle and carrier. Step 3. Tighten the two smaller (10mm?) bolts (the ones with the lock nuts)until the chain is adjusted properly - being careful to keep the adjustment even). Step 4. Tighten the lock nuts while making sure the adjustment bolts don't turn. Step 5. Tighten the upper and lower bolts (from step 2). You should be good to go. Crappy Yamaha design! Rooster
  5. I know we're getting way off topic here but I thought I'd chime in on the updating Banshee thing. I've had mine for almost 14 years and LOVE it. I just wish Yamaha would have done more improvements over the years, then maybe more people would have bought them and Yamaha would have said "bite me" when the pressure was on to stop building them. The stock frame (weld quality, etc) sucks! My old Honda was way better as far as quality goes - it just couldn't keep up with the "Big Boys". Rooster
  6. I had my FMF's chrome plated last year. They were used - very used. I ran them for 13 years before getting them done. The shop was a little worried about it due to the carbon build-up inside but he just plugged them real good before he started the process and it was no problem. They look great. Rooster

  8. It is an ignition modification. I had one on my old Honda 250X. I guess it helped some but I don't recall it being one of those "WOW, I should have do this a long time ago" mods. I put it on after I did the pipe, carb work, air filter and a couple other things. I'd probably spend my $ on something that really makes a difference. What's been done to your bike so far? Rooster
  9. As a California native all I can say is; I'll take an occasional earthquake over a hurricane or tornado anytime. I've lived in SoCal for almost 49 years and can only remember three or four that were even bad enough to rattle a window (in and around the area I live) - so far! We've never had so much as a broken dish. Again, so far! Hurricane SEASON! Torando SEASON! No thanks. With that said, I REALLY hope you all are okay after all this is over. I personally feel bad for ya'all, really. This must suck. We (I mean the company I work for) have thousands of employees and billions of dollars worth of facilities in the gulf (LA, TX, MS) and literally everybody and everything is getting totally screawed up by all this weather you are having. Good luck, and I hope you return home to find everything you left intact and safe.
  10. Is it really hot, or are you just saying the fluid is spewing? Mine did that from day one (when the bike was stock) and continued doing that until I just lowered the fill level in the overflow bottle. It hasn't done it in years and the motor is also built now and I ride hard in Glamis heat all the time. Rooster

  16. Black chrome looks really nice...... until you touch it! It scratches REALLY easy. I had some stuff done for a project at work and by the time it got here it was already jacked up just by being wrapped in newspaper. Good luck. Rooster
  17. My bet is that it's either the CDI black box, or a bad connection somewhere. My Banshee and a friends both died (on the same ride) when our coil wires came loose. On the previous trip his bike had suddenly died (unknown reason at the time) so we had switched out just about everything electrical between the two bikes in an attempt to find out what was wrong with his. When nothing worked we figured it was the CDI. This was confirmed when he got home. The very next trip both bikes died within minutes of each other. After we got back we found that both of our coil wires had come loose. We found out the hard way that the connections get loose after being removed and did a quick crimp job on the connectors and away we went. Rooster
  18. I don't know anything about Royal Purple, but I do know what has worked for me. I've always used Maxima 927 at 40:1 and have never had a engine failure. In fact my first motor lasted about 10 years before needing a rebuild. At the time the mechanic told me that the engine looked to be in very good condition, just some minor wear and that an overbore was not needed (although we did do a clean-up bore just to be safe).   19. I've always been told that this will cause the bike to loose a lot of torque and isn't a good idea on bikes if you plan on riding in the dunes a lot, like I do. What's the deal there? Rooster

  21. I've been ridin' my Banshee at Glamis for about 14 years and have only bent my J arm twice. Once was a slow roll-over after loosing a wheelie and the second time was a dreaded "witches eye", both times I've replaced with used stockers and have had good luck. I personally prefer to spend my money on go fast parts rather than stuff like that. The last one only cost me $20.00! Rooster
  22. 350+ (Stock stroke, slight overbore), HC forged pistons, top secret porting (some kind of experimental square port something or other???), milled and rechambered head, Trinity Stage IV CV carb w/K&N filter, FMF pipes with Toomey silencers and a couple other details. I was told (sorry no dyno report on this motor ) by the builder that it's puttin' out somewhere around 70-75 HP. After the last motor dyno'd at 55 HP with no where near the mods I trust this guy on the numbers. Now all I need is an extended swing arm to get all that to the sand without standing the front end up all the time! Rooster
  23. The bummer is that they don't come over to steal stuff when you're home, so all the artillery in the world won't help. Ya, I've got a small collection myself, but unless I'm home sittin' on the couch when they pop in it's all for nothing. I keep my stuff in a gun safe so even if they get in the house they're not gettin' mine! Rooster
