I wouldn't do that unless you know what you are doing. Crankcase volume directly effects port volume and suspension of fuel in a two stroke. You can kill your motor looking for power that isn't there.

YZ490 metals and fibers. Stock Yamaha 3 stock springs, 3 Barnett spirngs. Easy to pull, does not slip. The Barnett clutch is crap. It drags, is hard to pull, and operates like a light switch. On or Off. This is an easy to ride clutch that you can use all day long.

Friends Girlfriend Wrecked my new banshee
MonkeyBoy replied to Droppedatbirth's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Looks like a bent tie rod. Banshee's are notoriously weak in that area. -
Microsoft generally locks up an account after three failed logon attempts. You need an admin to unlock it. You iwill probably have to resetup the computer, but when you add users, make sure to add one extra as an admin. This will give you the backdoor to fix what just happened. Can you logon as admin?

Pro X here. If Duncan can run them for the 12 hours of PDV and win 7 of the last 10 years, I won't have any problems running them.
-
I only cut two off. i was scared that they wouldn't close all the way. Do they close all the way? Snap closed?
-
What were you running before that C series wheels and Holeshot HD are less weight? Not saying that it isn't quality stuff, but light it isn't.

The spring has been out of my Yamaha thumber for a while already, and the cable is kept well lubed. Those mods were already in the baseline of this test.
-
Here we go, here is my test. I feel all scientific... First pic is the thottle sides open all the way with the stock thumb throttle. The slide pics didn't come out too good, I should have taken the whole airbox off and the rear number plate too. And here is the reading on the fish scale for the stock throttle. Here is the Honda throttle open. See the slides aren't all the way open. Here is the Honda Throttle, see the stop at the end of the throttle throw. Here is is ground off... Here is the new tension... I also tried cutting the springs. Not much, as I am worried about overdoing it. As you can see, it made some difference, just not as drastic as the throttle change. All in all, I took almost halved the force needed to open the carbs, and maintained full throttle operation. I think the Honda Throttle is more comfortable too. Next test is a Cascade lever on the Honda throttle. See if that helps. Let me find my lab coat...
-
Yes, but after you see what I have done, you may be surprised. Besided, I can still do that to the Honda Lever, and get an even lower number.
-
Will they still close all the way?
-
I will document it this weekend.

I have 34 PJ's on my Banshee and have always had to use a twist throttle because of a past broken hand making it impossible for me to hold on to a thumb for very long. I wanted to find a way to go back to the thumb throttle, and I think I have. I used a stock Honda 400EX thumb throttle. You must use a thumb throttle cable (obviously). I tested this last night using a fishing scale. I pulled max throttle, and then backed of about 1/16 of an inch. Then I put a fishing scale in the thum lever to see the force required to hold it open. Stock Yamaha thumb throttle, 3 month old cable, 34 PJ's: 4.9 lbs. Stock Honda 400EX thumb throttle same cable and carbs: 2.8 lbs It may not seem like a lot, but it is after a 45 minute Gran Prix. I still need to take the airbox off and make sure that the carbs open fully. There is a stop inside the 400EX thumber that can be ground down to give it more throw if I need to. I probably won't get to this until this weekend, I may swap the old thumber on to take pics and post for you guys. Only thing that is still necessary is a polished throttle cover. I will not allow my Yamaha to say Honda on it anywhere.

reinstalling thumb throttle and cable?
MonkeyBoy replied to racer714's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Nope. If you have the stock carbs, it's a pain to get the cables back into the slides, but nothing you can't do. Clutch cable is even easier. With the carbs off, undo the bolt that holds the wires and cables dow to the engine, and this will make your life easier. Only thing to watch is where you route your cables to make sure that they do not bind when the steering is turned. I had a friend that routed the throttle cable to gas it when he turned left. Not a fun one to realize in the dunes. -
Wasn't it you that made the spark plug lock that was a piece of billet that locked them in place to keep from backing out? Looked like a double box end wrench?

So do you want t o be vindicated, or pitied? Come on John Kerry, pick a story and stick to it. First you didn't answer back, then you did. I saw what you posted as a direct lash at Walter, and apparently I am not the only one who saw it that way. Quit playing both sides, and maybe you'll get some respect around here.
-
You tell me where Walt, and I'll be there. Can't keep me away from the sand for long. Bring the kids to Cali for a vacation, and we could do a day run to Pismo. I'll do it, I have done it plenty before. Till we ride again...

Long travel set-up vs regular +2 A-arm setup
MonkeyBoy replied to dawgfan's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Without opening up a can of worms, you'll be fine with the standard travel setup. That's what most people make for the Banshee anyway. AFAIK only Jansen (I think),So Cal Fab, and Roll Design make a true long travel Banshee front end. -
I like you better every day. Basically, I agree, but I haven't asked Walt directly. I see the point. People want to ask questions here that they do not want the answer to. I see many questions that are posted, and the general concensus is that Banshees rule. While this is a Banshee site, there is a time and a place where the answer, "The Banshee wouldn't work there" is appropriate. But if you say that, you get bashed here. It gets old, but the truth is the truth.
-
Walts still around, he just lurks more. I can't say I know exactly what's going through his mind, but it seems he has become tired of a few things. He has explained it to me, and I see what he is saying. I still talk to him semi regularly. He is busy and doesn't have the time to be on the computer as much anymore. Walt's a good guy, always there for people, and if he wants to jump in here and give you the full story, that's his decision. If you read this, you know there is always a Banshee waiting for you if you are out in Cali.

Good place to find LT250 parts?
MonkeyBoy replied to ledofthezep's topic in General Banshee Discussion
You may be better off milling the stock head, or going to a Cool head. I know Duncan still has LT parts, but not stock ones. -
can a banshee be modified?
MonkeyBoy replied to 2stroke_addict's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I totally agree, that's why I am here. I want a YFZ, but I do not want to give up my Banshee to buy it. No one quad excells at everything, so I have more than one. As long as you enjoy what you have, everything is good. -
can a banshee be modified?
MonkeyBoy replied to 2stroke_addict's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Again, look at the question. On an MX track lighter and more nible wins every time. Sorry, the Banshee does not hold it's own on an MX track. It would qualify for Open Pro, but no one uses it. Why? Too heavy, poor frame design, and power delivery issues. I'm on a Banshee website because I own one. I race it, I dune it, and I enjoy it. But guys, get real and admit that there are bikes better suited to certain needs than the Banshee. I am looking to replace the frame with a 250R geometry frame and go full Roll Lobo chassis on it. That's the best it will ever handle. Still gonna spin the tires out of the corners because of power delivery. It's the nature of the beast. I am starting to realize why some people get so frustrated talking to you guys. -
can a banshee be modified?
MonkeyBoy replied to 2stroke_addict's topic in General Banshee Discussion
i understand now. You guys don't want the truth, you want to hear that the Banshee is faster. Not getting it from me. Take your own poll. Go to the next National, and ask the pros what they think they would rather ride. See if you get one vote for the Banshee.
