I have both, a piped/filtered 450 and a piped/filtered shee, and in sand on 8 paddle haulers, I am faster on the 450. Not by much, but faster none the less. Only one of my friends on his piped shee trades wins with me, but he can ride like a mofo. Porting is prolly in the future for my shee, but I'm not sure.....

I was thinking that maybe we should flag some of the more popular riding areas, to give everyone a perspective on where everyone rides, I.E. Silver Lake, Glamis, Badlands, Little Sahara. Seriously, I only know where the places that I commonly ride are..... BTW I didn't flag any yet, because I wanted to get opinions of others first.

Some piggyback front shocks would look pretty good with those red arms. Elkas would look pretty sweet.

I didn't think that I could afford both either. My banshee isn't even hopped up that much, I just wanted the 450 to run trails with. I do love the suspension, I won't lie. I miss the powerband hit of the banshee when I ride the 450 . I watched eBay like a hawk for like 4 months and found my 450 cheap. It already had a full exhaust too. If I were you, I would really think about what kind of riding you do, and go from there. Or wait until the new 450Rs and Z450s come out and see if yfz prices go down enough to get both.

My banshee was sidelined , so I was on my 450. Its blue, and looks like every other 450 out there. I was riding with 3 other guys on blue banshees, and my brother on his yellow and black painted Raptor (it was painted before he got it, I swear!) . My banshee was in the back of my black 2002 Ram, and we parked right next to the hole-in -the-floor-smells-really-bad bathrooms on Saturday. Which one were you? I was around all day Saturday and Most of Sunday, I was dragging some of the time on Saturday, if you were out there.

To the other post, I told him to get a banshee when he bought it, but he only runs trails, and everyone else he rides with has newer four strokes. I can beat him in a drag race on my banshee or my 450, and that is why he wants to hop up the Rappy. Thanks again.

My brother bought a Raptor a few years ago, and (after hearing about the kind of info on here for Banshees) wants to know if there is a Raptor forum. Anyone know of one, or another forum that is good for Raptors? Any help is appreciated.

I was in high school, senior year at that. The whole thing was happening, and no one knew. The administrators told the teachers not to tell, so as not to cause a problem. Naturally, many of the teachers disagreed, and told us. Some classes started watching the coverage on their in class tvs, and then the principal made an announcement to shut off radios and TVs in all classes. It sucked to have that major of a catastrophy happening, and being helpless to find out more about it.

Thanks for the help guys, going to get a aluminum impeller and new bearing seal etc, then try a hot compression test. Thinking he just wasn't riding fast enough. Thanks again, I'll let you know.

Alright, I just got back from Silver Lake, after having my shee ruin my weekend . I just bought a 450 off of a guy (great deal), and invited my non-quad-riding brother in law to go with me for his first time out. I usually go with a huge group, but just me and him this time. Anyway, I start the shee up, and leave it idle for about 10-15 minutes, then we slowly move around the parking lot, learning the take off procedures. He is on the shee btw, and only stalled like twice. We make a lap in the lot, head out to the dunes, and he slowly moves down the entrance rode in first. We hit the riding area, and he stalls like 2 more times. I noticed a little smoke on the pipes, but thought it was just the new polish I had used burning off a bit. Then it got out of control, and I saw the green antifreeze . I pulled him back to the lot, where we found out it was coming out of the the overflow. I filled up the reservoir and the radiator, started it, rode around the lot, and it overheated again. I then thought about how Shees are known to throw out a certain amount of antifreeze before coming to equilibrium, so we let it overheat and caught the antifreeze until I was sure too much had come out. (At this point we gave up on riding, making the 3.5 hour drive to there pointless due to only 5 minutes of riding.) I took the water pump cover off, expecting a melted impeller, but it wasn't and it turns when you move the kicker. I have now flushed the engine and the radiator and found no restrictions. Compression test performed today on cold engine, and read 115 and 116psi. I have checked the air filter, hoses, engine compression, water pump impeller, etc. I run 20 oz Yamalube 2r to 4 gallons of 93 octane. What could this be? A buddy says it could still be a head gasket, another says its a water pump oil seal, another says that the radiator isn't flowing enough (but I haven't had a previous problem). Plugs are dark dark brown, meaning its not lean. It is also running perfect before it overheats. Crankcase oil seems a little watery looking, but not milky. Sorry for the book, I'm just a little angry at the wasted trip at this point . Any help is appreciated. The only mods are in my sig. Thanks a lot.

I have only gone to Silver Lake with a huge group. I have never gone on my own until this coming weekend. My question is how do I get into the lot? I know that I need to have a state park day pass for the truck and the quads, but I know that some of my group usuakky gets vouchers. I want to make absolutely sure that I can get in first thing Saturday morning, so when do I have to go to the voucher center to get one? Friday night? What time? What will they want to know? I am thinking that I will send my Girlfriend to get it since she will be in the area around 4. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks. BTW, anyone else going this weekend?

I will be going to Mio, might stop by Bull Gap to watch the races for a bit. I was there last year labor day, and there was around 40 or so people climbing the hill.

Anyone know a lot about VW sand buggies? I was thinking about buying one, a local guy has one for sale without an engine. It has a torsion IRS, and looks to be pretty clean. What should I look for? Whats a good price? He's asking like 1500. I might go look at it today. I mainly want one to take to Silver Lake, to drive my girlfriend around in before I buy her a quad. I am also looking for opinions on engines: what size, parts, carbs, brands, etc. I am kind of on a budget. I haven't worked on or dealt with one before, but my auto mechanic father is going to help put the new engine in and get it running. Sorry for the book, but I just want to get your guys' opinion. I am going to buy a new chain and sprockets tomorrow (online), and have found a deal on an RK x-ring chain and steel sprockets for like $88 shipped. I also considered a DID x-ring from motoman, or magic racing, which are both about an hour's drive from me. They both have kits, but they are a little bit more $$$. What should I get????? Any input is appreciated. THanks.
