Yes it does turn them into lectrons. Lectrons do work great but they are a bitch to get dialed in. So whats the deal with the lectron carbs? They claim like a 5hp increase on top end with their carbs due to the "power jet". The dial a jet is basically the same thing as the power jet circut on a lectron. Yet the dial a jet claims to be a breaze to jet but doesn't mention any hp gains.

Dark brown and a tad moist on the base ring but not black. my pilots seem to be OK also. I can lugg around the yard for 20 min and it still won't load up but, most of the time on cold starts I only choke one carb and it fires up 1st or 2nd kick. Tonite I rode it and, it seemed to run a little better than usual. Out side air temp was about 20 degrees cooler than what I have been riding in. So maybe its still to rich. I'm thinkin the leaner slides are the way to go. I priced them from Pro-Flo and its around $60 a slide what about this Dial a jet your runnin? have you rode it without the Dial A Jet? Does it run OK without the dial a jet? What do you jet to without it? Is it a Vitos unit? Sorry for the 10,000 questions. I see you are using a 22cc dome, what octane fuel are you using? I don't have to choke my bike at all on a cold start, I just kick it through a few times real slow and it will start. It sounds to me like you might be alittle fat on the main jet, before You buy the slides try to get some different needles. If you call sudco and tell them what you have and what you are trying to do, they are willing to help you (most of the time). I had some 34pj on my bike for awhile, when I had those I used a 172 main jet and a 50 or a 55 pilot jet. The dial-a-jet is like a power jet in a alky carb. It just sprays and extra mist of fuel in the intake side of the carb, and you can adjust or change you main jet by turning the screw on the side. When I had my motor done I told Jim I wanted to still run pump gas because, when we go riding we ride all day long. We go through about 2 to 3 tanks a day and that would be a pretty expensive day of riding with race gas at $5.50 per gallon and oil at $5.00 a bottle. It would cost about $60 for a good day of riddin (not good on a poor mans budget). To answer your question I try to get the highest octane I can find which is usually 93 from Amaco (bp). But I am thinking of getting smaller domes and running a 50/50 mix.

148 mains? hell I'm runnin 168 mains, I was running 160's but I switched em about a week ago. It didn't seem to make one bit of difference from the 160's to 168's. Hell maybe I'm way to rich to begin with. The only problem with that theory is that it never loads up and, the plugs look dark brown so I know I'm not far off. I guess I'll try 148's.. what the hell, I guess I got nothin to lose exept for another $10. At this point I'd pay $100 just for it to run right! If this doesn't work I goin with my first theory of buying one step leaner slide cut away. Which is what i should have done in the first place but I didn't want to shell out the $120 for em when I wasn't certain that was the problem. Now I've got about $100 in jets and no fix to the problem yet.

Try raising the needles? syncing does factor in, but the way you did it is the same way I suggest..... Needles are all the way up with a 168 main, 45pilots... I rejetted to this after I saw Loco's post about him doing the same thing, and the dead spot was "almost gone". Well, I wasn't so lucky. Mine runs pretty much the same no matter what jetting it has in it. Go figure. My previous jetting was 160 mains, 50 pilot, and needle one notch from all the way up....Runs the same. At this rate I will have well over a hundred bucks in pilots and mains. Hell I've been supporting my local bike shop lately by buying jets. When i walk through the door the ask me "What size now"? Ain't that a bitch?, I got two grand in this fuckin thing and the only way I can ride it is WFO, because if I try to ride it like a normal human, when it hits that dead spot I get so pissed I hit the clutch and set the tires on fire for four gears.... Damn!

What about carb sync? Could this be a factor in the dead spot. I can't speak for eveyone but when I installed my carbs I had no access to a vacume gage, so I did it by sight and feel. I adjusted the screw and jam nut on top of the carb cap until I could feel both carbs hit bottom at the EXACT same time (which seemed good enough to me). The bike runs excellent everywhere throughout the powerband except right before 1/4 throttle. It even idles perfect (I also have my idle set really low. just enough to barely run). Its kind of a long shot (since just about everyone has the same problem as me) but I'm trying to come up with all possible solutions. I'm so tire of fuckin with it, I'm about to just give up and just say the hell with it and ride it like it is.

420, Did you ever get the flat spot jetted out of it ?

I'm leaving fri. morning to go there! My first time also!

Indian Larry... What a guy. the man was master at fab work. I myself wasn't really into the style of his bikes, but was impressed by them none the less. I really enjoyed watching him build. It has always been interesting to me how a man like him can put his ideas into art work with such ease ( or at least he makes it look easy). The guy hardly ever picked up a tape measure. Just did most of it by eye, and it turned out better than most poeple could do with hours of measurements. That dude had one hell of a talent....DAMN!! I'll miss ya Larry. 23champ

420 is also running 33PWK's,( or at least thats what it says in his sig.) so the jetting on the 35's will probably differ from his settings. Thanks for the info. 420, keep us posted!

I think for all around ridding the 35's are plenty, maybe even a bit large (when just idleing up a hill and nail it it will bogg a bit. from to much fuel and not enough air. at low rpm the 35s are so big it doesn't have enough air velocity). <[don't think thats spelled right, but I've been drinking quite a while, so it looks good to me]. But if you clutch it and get some r's behind it, it will come alive. If all you do is drag race I would go with some tappered bore lectrons. Like a 38 in and 40 out. Those carbs are bad ass. I have a 46mm straight bore on my CR500 hillclimber. It probably gave it another 3 to 5 hp if not more...... KILLER CARBS

Belray Gearsaver in all my bikes, I swear by it. Good shit

Don't get me wrong, the motor runs great, and I am satisfied with the performance. Its my fault the motor isnt running to its fullest potential. Jetting is very critical, especialy on a race ported motor. I know I can fix the problem through jetting so I'm not to worried. All it takes is time. Trial and error.

Two for each carb. One goes in front of the reed cage, the other goes behind it
-
Yes, only when the throttle is rolled on that this dead spot occurs. Like I say it only lasts for like a second in the lower gears, but the higher the gear the longer it lasts. If you cruise down the road in 6th and roll it on it takes forever to get on the pipe, or if your going up a slight hill it wont get on the pipe at all. If you down shift and nail it it will blow the tires off. If you line up for a drag race and just pound it through the gears it goes like hell. only roll on power is affected.
-
My plug chops look just about perfect maybe even a little rich. This dead spot I'm describing is a sort of rich blubber. For example.. When ridding along on pavement (or something that will hook up) in third gear at about 15 or 20 mph, if you nail it, it will start pulling like gang busters, until it hits the dead spot. Then it hesitates for a second, then starts pulling hard again. I've had them damn needles everywhere but up my ass, and the difference it makes is after the hesitation has already occured. Which to me means slide cutaway.because I know my pilots are good. It never loads up, even if you idle around all day. And it dosen't require a whole lot of choking when the motor is cold, in fact I usually only choke one carb on cold starts, and it fires up on first or second kick EVERY TIME.

We are at about 1000ft above sea level jetted at 170mains, 50 pilots, clip on needles one notch from bottom, with fmf fatties on mine and my brothers, toomeys on one of my friends, PC's on another one of my friends(hes runnin pj 34's not sure what jetting), and locogato is running rockets (not sure what he rejetted to after the rockets). We all seem to have the same problem.

What the FUNK are you saying! Dude..., read your post before putting it on here. I can't make heads or tales out of what your saying.

Looks pretty mean!! correct me if I'm wrong but, Bored to the max is usually not a good thing. -
I have to agree, that set up would be sweet as hell. But thats about 800 bones you got wrapped up in it... I'm a poor bastard, I gotta go with the cheep shit.
-
I've heard barnett steels, with heavy springs, and R1 fibers are the way to go! Or.... I hate to say it because most of the people on here hate Trinity, but they have a pretty good clutch kit also. My brother has a Trinity clutch in his quad with a Passion 4mill 12 port. He can bag the piss out of the clutch all day long, whether it be drag racing or dune ridding, and it doesn't seem to phase it at all.
-
That jetting should be pretty much dead on.... I think the clip on my needle is one from the bottom.
-
I have a friend that has the same exact motor as mine, but he has the PJ34's....Same problem. I would like to buy some different slides, because I'm pretty sure that is where the problem lies. But I've just got too many irons in the fire right now. I have a lot of things I need to get done and they all cost money. These days it just seems there isn't enough money to go around. everytime I turn around some asshole wants 5 or 6 hundred bucks.
-
The dead spot on mine is in the same spot of the powerband as everyone on here has described, but mine seems to me like its rich not lean. This would require a leaner needle, which I purchased the same time as the carbs. BUT i have tried both needles, and ended up going back to the richer needle, because the dead spot is before the needle takes play in the jetting circut. This leads me to believe it's in the slide cutaway, I think one step leaner slide would do the trick...#8 I think... Only problem is they're like $60 each. Thats 120 bones for something that might not fix the problem.
