Zachary Woodrow Wilson Now how fuckin presidential is that? With a name like mine I suppose I should just run for president except, I did inhale, and a few other things.

I believe we give thanks because the indians saved the pilgrims asses from starving their ass off in the first freezing winter they arrived at Plimouth Rock (in the cold North East) by giving them food and showing the pilgrims crops that would grow locally (like corn) and local animals that could be hunted, (turkeys ?) to survive on through the winter. Then they took the the indians land and introduced them to Jesus. Now they are getting back at the white man by taking advantage of his own greed through casinos. 350 years later, were even again.

K&N clamp ons with outerweares work very well in the sand, stay pretty clean where as the sand sticks to oiled foam pod filters real bad, but I would highly recommend UNI pod filters for riding in dusty conditions if you switch to pods. UNI pods are only $10 each anyway. For extremely muddy conditions or deep water it is best to keep the air box. The airbox also makes for less filter maintenance.

Long and to the left. Truck drivers don't need Viagra, they just get a new Peterbilt. Ok, Sorry, continue on.

What he said. Your piston may measure 65.5 but it needs to live in a hole slightly larger than itself. If it says 6600 I'd say that the piston is for a 66.0 mm bore which is a .080" over bore. You might be ready for a big bore sleeve kit soon.

No experience with siezed rod bearings on a banshee but had it happen to the wifes blaster. The motor definitly couldn't be turned over when it had just happend and just barely when it had cooled down. You'll defintely know if it is your crank or not if you pull the cylinders and the rods are stiffer than hell to move back and forth, or are sloppy loose side to side, or if you cant easily turn the crank using yor hand on the kick start.
-
The cranks are pressed together; the rods are one piece not two pieces like on a 4 stroke. The cranks have a tendency to separate and/or twist so the 2 rods/pistons are out of phase especially on higher HP motors, welding the crank helps it resist separating and twisting. Your local machine shop could probably rebuild/ true and weld. Get price quotes and make sure they have experience and have done it many times before. Some shops do it very good fast and cheap which makes it worth sending out. For a +4 stroker, you have to buy a new 4mm stroker crank which adds 4mm of stroke, and takes displacement up to 370cc on the stock bore. It adds low end torque which can compensate for a more top end type porting. It needs to have porting specifically for the 4mm of added stroke. For this I would recommend getting it done by a very experienced and reputable builder. This route is a little more spendy, also you'll want many more supporting mods to take advantage of the potential HP in the 4mm motor = $$$

I'd suggest you may want to turn in your air screws a bit to richen up the idle mixture. With the cold dense air it may be a tad lean at idle and the choke isn't richening it up quite enough at startup. If the bike idles at a decent rpm once its warmed up then I wouldn't mess with the idle scews although it may start a bit easier with a slightly high idle.

NickyPap, sweet vids bro! Those guys in the vids a some sick half mental bad ass M-Fers. Still doesn't make me think the Z is all that.

I would just replace the metal disks while your at it. I'm assuming the sanding is just to break the glaze and add texture for more friction kinda like turning break rotors. An easier method might be to put a sheet of sand paper on a flat surface and move the disks in an ossilating motion on the paper to sand and also somewhat flatten the surface.

Did you try flipping the switch to the different settings on the dyna ignition? I think there are 4 switch settings, one stock and three modded timing cureves. I know a local tuner that said his bike runs like crap on one of the settings and is awsone on another. Just a thought.
-
Like you said, I would probably lean towards having it done locally if you have someone with a good reputation and proven results. I had a somewhat negative experience with sending my stuff out, but I got a very good deal on labor and all the parts and engine work/machining that was done. I know passionre has a good reputation for customer service. I think most good builders can give you the type of port work you are looking for.

It depends ALOT on where you live. I'm betting you could get $5K in Northern CA if its in good condition low hours. I'm not real sure about Socal because there are a lot of riding areas down there that don't allow red sticker bikes. But then theres Glamis, Pismo ect. and a lot of rich bastards with $5k in their wallet. I'd start by asking $5k and take a lower offer if you cant sell it within a month or 2.

The Z-400 has a torquy motor but has crappy top end HP. Realy flat on top. Other than that they are pretty decent. However, put a high compression piston, cams, a ported head, and a full exhaust system on and they are a totally different machine and could easily hang with a piped YFZ 450. Although I'd still take the 450. The Articat 400, same thing as the Z W/ better plastics can be bought for like $5500 OTD, thats a very good value compared to $8k OTD for the YFZ. I almost bought one for my wife but she talked me into the YFZ, didn't take much persuasion. What can I say, the YFZ just kicks ass and was beggin to go home with her.

Thanks guys. Feels like I'm starting a new chapter in my life. And yeah, I guarentee, boy or girl, it'll be a motorcycle maniac just like daddy!

Looks like I'm going to be a Daddy! Best of all, conception took place while my wife and I were on Vacation riding the doons at Sand Mountain NV. No we didn't do it on the top of the mountain, that would have been cool though! Who new that fast quads and sand could work like a fertility drug? This will be our first so I'm kinda excited. My wife and I have been married for 4 years and she went off the pill almost 2 years ago. For the first couple of monthes of baby making activities I was a bit nervous when the news would hit, after a year or so I started to wonder, and finally almost 2 years go by and I really wasn't expecting it. I stated to figure, well since theres no bun in the oven I might as well get that hot truck I always wanted. I had a funny feeling that if I bought the Lightning my wife would get pregnant. I just wish the stork could drop off the new baby already a couple of years old, potty trained, with a fat colleged fund and a warrenty!

Just curious, I've hear that the single carb set up yields way better fuel economy. If this is true can someone explain how this could be, because is seams like it would be running lean if this were the case. Is more fuel somehow waisted with duels? My new duel 34mm on a 4mm stroker set up is friggin hard on the dinosaur juice in the sand. Seems to do pretty good when crusing around on dirt roads and trails though.

What happens when you have no water?
Ducman replied to 01bansheefox's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I highly doubt the motor is damaged beyond repair. If the rod bearings and crank bearings are still ok and the top end is siezed, which is probably the case then its no big deal. Probably a good idea to do a new top end on used bike you just bought anyway. If you pull the cylinders off and the crank and/or rod bearings are toast then it will be a litttle more expensive but still fixable. -
Are you just keeping the lid on to hold the stock filter in? If so I'd do both, make that lid look like swiss cheese. Like sredish said the more the merrier. If you want more flow but want to keep the filter clean so there is less maintenance then drill the holes and use the plugs with the little filters. Put as many as you can fit in the damb lid. Cutting the back part of the lid off is the simplest way to go, works good and is free. Definitly rejet. If you make the lid flow good I would go to a 290 main in the cold weather 280 when it is above 80 degrees.

There is no exact definition of what is a trai port or an MX port, but I think trail porting is typically a light "clean up port" or some builders call it stage 1 porting. It is usually fairly cheap, like $100 to $200. MX porting is usually more complicated, may involve adding boost ports, and opens up the ports a lot more for more flow and yields more overall power. Basically tries to get as much flow as possible without loosing bottom end. Costs around $400. Kinda ambiguous answer, but I hope it helps.

You could always get aftermarket mannifolds that are the same style as stock for cheap, about $80 or less. Trinity has some cheap bilit 2 piece manifolds I saw going on E-bay. I got a prodesign 2 piece manifold, not cheap = $200. Probably would have been better off with a BOSS 1 piece manifold.

About all I can add is Castor 929 seperates from the fuel at freezing temps so don't pick that oil. As for starting, maybe try some starting fluid? Dont spray it on the filter though.

For 1/2 the price of Sand Skates, I'd say Sand Stars are definitly the best bang for the buck and a very good all around sand tire. I don't think they are all that much heavier than sand skates, enough for the average rider to notice, but I'm sure they are less likely to get damaged on foriegn objects you might hit in the sand. For the best straight line traction, hills/drags, I'd go with haulers though.

A Few questions (beginner banshee rider)
Ducman replied to YamahaBanshee2K5's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Fairly normal, it'll get a bit better after is gets a few more Hrs and loostens up a bit and you start riding it more agressively.. If you start it up and don't ride it and then start it again it will get worse untill you take it out and romp on it to get it good and hot and get the cylinders and case cleared out of excess fuel and oil. I thinks its about 1.8 quarts. Any oil you get from a motorcycle shopl made for 2 stroke gear boxes should be fine.
