  1. after watching several races at the dunes with many shees and 450's,some 450's stock and some piped i can tell you you should beat it but it wont be by much.myabe 1 1/2 bikes.thats a piped shee against a piped 450.they do run really good and cannot be denied.only real difference is that other than maybe a pipe/airfilter the only thing left is a port job-and the port job wont do much more(450 that is).the new 450 is pretty rad right out of the box.
  2. its perfectly clear that honda is desperately trying to play "catchup" to yamaha.not only in quads but bikes as well.it cracks me up to see the honda commercial with ricky carmicheal riding his cr250 around a track with some young kids on xr's.it makies you think that an xr is a racing bike for mx-and nothing could be further than the truth.
  3. my pipes did the same i am not sure exactly why,i went really big on the mains with the pipes and have come down a few sizes.i suspect it was from using stock pilot jets -i now use 27.5's,the 30's were just too big for my bike.
  4. hey guys, i am a maintenance electrician for alcoa-i work on hyd.,pnuematic and mechanical production equipment.we make a sh*t load of aluminum ball bat for all the bseball/softball bat companies
  5. we have a small zoo here in az. called out of africa.their biggest male lion "Java" is about 800 lbs,my 7 yr old girl wont walk down his aisle.haha.you can get about 3 ft away from all their cats when they are up next to the chain link fence.....if anyone tells you they wouldnt have crapped when that lion was coming to shake hands they would be a lyin those lions are one bad ass animal-they will humble anyone in a heart beat.
  6. yes there is a big difference between the 3. a 125 is a very light and nimble machine as you would know, but it has no bottom end grunt so to speak and you must stay on the pipe to get any satisfaction out of it.they also go thru piston/rings faster as they rev higher than a 250 or 500. a 250 is also a light and nimble machine but a bit heavier in comparison to the 125.it has the "most ideal" power spreads to power output for the most people.it has some bottom and some mid and some top end in a snappy strong package.it still needs piston/rings but not as frequent as the 125. a 500 is a manly mans bike its heavier than 250's and kind of has a gyro feel to it.it likes to stay straight up in some corners-doesnt turn as easy as 125/250's.it vibrates noticeably much more than the others on the plus side- its got great low end, massive mid and massive top end pull.it'll wear rear tires down quickly, tries to stand up and toss you off everytime it gets traction and showers whatever is behind it with copious amounts of roost if you get a chance to ride one you'll see what i mean.these monsters are usually found tearing up the sand dunes, hill climbing ,single tracking ,jumping grand canyons and all around the vet classes at your local race events.it does really well as far as piston/ring replacement.its too bad they quit selling them here in the states. my buddy just took and put a cr500 engine into a crf450 chassis. if someone can tell me how to get a pic from my pics in xp to here i'll post it.
  7. take your cylinders to a local atv /bike shop and have them measure the bore.they have special inner diameter bore gauges that will tell them if your out of spec for another set of standard bore pistons.
  8. dont forget that on yamahas web page they have the exploded parts w/ part #s for just about everybike they have made.i have it saved in my favorites
  9. sounds like the 33 set up is right up your alley.if you get it give a before/after comparison
  10. its not cheap, the clutch hub is around 289$,the outer basket is around 190$ i think and the pressure plate is 150$ i believe.most people just buy the basket and maybe the psi plate.search around and make lots of calls to get the best prices.
  11. do you know what size carb?they say get the 35 if your ported or stick with the 33 if unported.i sure am itchin to give one a try myself.
  12. i have SST's and duall Uni-filters.i had to go up 1 size on the pilots because it just sucked unless i was on the pipe you'll never know till you try it though.
  13. i did the exact same thing on my bike w/ about the same hrs on it.i read 110 lbs the first time and used 2 gauges(they read the same). i repeated the drill again the next day and kicked the bike over w/shoes on this time and as fast and as hard as i could and got 115 lbs with throttle wided open. i am at 1200 ft here so we are probably the same. i plan on shaving my head .020 -.030 to get closer to 150 lbs in the future.compression helps more w/ the low end than the topend so dont think you need 200lbs compression. someone has a 10 things to do to a shee list somewhere on here and its very good to enhance the performance, you might want to check it out.its all good advice.
  14. i never noticed till i read your post.i went and looked at mine and youre right.i have about a 1/16 to an 1/8 of clearance though.if your touching you might be able to loosen and rotate the hose a bit for clearance.i think maybe i'll get a small piece of high temp hose covering stuff from work and cover that small area for insurance.thanks for letting me see that
  15. i agree w/ banchetta, you have free flowing exhaust but not a free flowing intake(its enclosed).so cutting the box lid or complete removal will help tremendously.if you do that you might want to get the next size larger pilot as well.
