The first thing you need to do is to adjust the idle high enough that it will not die. If you have the stock jetting you will want to richen up the main jet before doing anything else. You need to make sure the tube that goes between the carbs is there and in the proper position. Not having the choke tube in place will make it every hard to start. Just turn up the idle and rejet the carbs for the main jet. Once you have the right main jet in there adjust the rest of the settings until you get the needle position set right. You really do jet kind of backwards by starting with the main, needle, pilot, and finally the air screw.

Hey Justin if you did get the pilot out but stripped out the threads you can shop around for a small tap to redo the threads. Hopefully you just stripped out the slot on the pilot jet.

I don't believe you can make a stroker crank without longer rods on it. The piston skirts will hit the crank web at BDC.

One thing I learned from riding sport bikes (crotch rockets) is 75% of all braking power is from the front brakes. When you take the motorcycle safety course they have you practice stopping with the front, rear, and then both. Depending on terrain the percentage of braking power does shift around. There are times when you would only want to use one set or the other as well. Say you stall out going up a big steep hill... you are just starting to come down backwards so you'd want to grab the front brake. You should get the idea. If you think the stock rear brakes are hard to modulate you should try a stainless steel braided line. As soon as you touch the brakes they want to lock up.

You might have put the slides in the wrong carbs. Make sure they are both all the way down and have the same amount of travel. You might also want to tighten the parking brake on the back of the quad.

Any time you bore the cylinder you are reducing the amount of life a cylinder has. Each over bore is one less piston size you can use in case of engine failure. Once you get to the last bore the liner is pretty thin and will cause problems. You can have the cylinder relined with another stock liner or go with a big bore kit. You don't gain a lot of power just from boring either.

I don't know how you guys foul plugs so often... you must not be getting on the gas enough! I had the stock plugs that came on my Banshee for 4 years. The only real reason I put new ones in was because I figured I'd upgrade to a fine wire plug and I was probably due for a fresh set. If you are changing plugs every week you need to look for other problems like jetting.

You have just welded your gears to the shfts they ride on. I don't know what hole your talking about but if you can take some pictures it would surely help. More importantly is your gears. Most likely you will have to buy a new set of gears to replace the set you have. You should start off by splitting the cases and making sure each gear (the ones that should spin freely) do still turn. SD4x4TRD had this happen to his motor just recently and he ended up buying a whole motor to replace the one he had. If your case isn't cracked you should be able to just replace the gears.

Use a dremel and cut the outer race in a spot or two and it should just fall out. Heat the case up and freeze the bearing when you go to put a new one in.

I have one and it's held up great so far. I ride some desert but mostly sand at Glamis. It's heat treated and that is why it has the yellow/gold color. Everything stock bolts up with no problems and he includes 4 axle nuts... two look like stock and the other two have more threads and a different crown to them but work the same. They are well worth the $200 even though they don't come with a warranty but, Rich will work with you if you do happen to bend one. I have no problems supporting his company as they treat every costomer well and the products he sells are top notch. I'm sure someone can chrome the axle if you want it done. I don't care what it looks like as long as it works.

Just buy a new shaft from the stealership.. it would probably be too big of a hassle to get it tapped. One you would have to cut all new threads which makes your old sprocket nut useless. How did you strip the shaft anyway

Don't worry about a puller if your going to have your crank welded. You'll have to remove the flywheel if your going to send out the crank. Check your PM and let me know if you want it done.

How about neither of those two.... MC-1 only for me.

Where do you live? I just noticed your in SoCal. -

Have you tried to push the clips down into the case before setting the gears into the cases? Sometimes the the clips don't seat all the way down like they should and they cause the gears to sit high. Another thing to check is the shift forks. Make sure you have the correct ones on the correct shafts. I know this stuff sounds stupid and you have probably checked them already but do a double take just to be sure. -
It would help if you didn't start a new post so we could read more about your problem. Where is it leaking from?

Smoking if you look a little farther down the list you will see "check index true & weld". This is more of what needs to be done to a stock crank after its been ridden for a while. Justintoxic what year is your Banshee? I'll PM you a price and let me know.... I've got a little free time this Sunday.
-
Justintoxicated I can split the cases and pull the crank for you to take some place else to be trued and welded and then reinstall the crank but it will cost you. Let me know

The large gear on the rear shaft on the bottom picture looks like the kick start idler gear. It should be outside of that case if it is indeed that gear. Check on Alba's website for the break down of the entire gear set. -
Justintoxicated how much would you be willing to spend for someone else to take the crank out and reinstall it for you? I've got all the proper tools and have done it before. You can ask SD4X4TRD about my work. I live up near Poway.

Most people gave up on turbo Banshees as just about everyone can't get it set up to run right. Most of them show great numbers on the dyno just before they pop.
