  1. LOL, I've been there before!!! Mud can be A LOT of fun....just as long as you can get out of it!!!
  2. That's good news!!! What kind of condition did you find it?
  3. It's one thing to have a problem every once in a while, but if you have problems every time you go out that's not the quad, it's the person who put it together and maintains it... Do you do all the routine maintenance after each ride? i.e. Wiping it down, greasing your fittings, tightening loose bolts, lube/adjust your chain, etc ?
  4. Yes it did include labor...or at least that's what the guy at the shop told me, you know how that goes sometimes If you're gonna be taking your clutch cover off, I would definitely inspect your water impellar and bearings. You can get the rebuild kit for pretty cheap and it includes your bearings and a new gasket....worth a shot
  5. I run a set of 22 inch GBC Dirt Devils. They grab well in the mud and spin just enough on dirt to keep you from standing it up too quick. They're fairly cheap, 6 ply, and have had little tread wear in the past year that I've ridden them. I highly recommend using them if you like to trail ride. I run a 13 tooth gear to help compensate for the taller tire.....
  6. I have a set of the maier plastics with the fenders and I'm not crazy about how the front fits. It's not bad but definitely not as clean as I would want for spending the chunk of cash to buy em new....Thankfully I got mine used. It seems like they sit about an inch higher than stock plastics would, and the mount holes don't line up all that great. The radiator plastic doesn't fit that great either, simply because the front plastic doesn't fit good. I can't speak for the maier's that come race cut, but the ones with the fenders fit like doo doo. The rears fit pretty good, can't complain about those.....
  7. Hell, you could keep the tires, just get new wheels....or do you really need the new wheels? What are riding on right now?
  8. Well, considering a new top end kit (pistons, rings, all gaskets) runs 160 on ebay and takes a couple of hours to teardown and install, and then your done... the price you were quoted is a little high for me. But, if you don't have the tools and means to do it yourself, I guess 280 isn't too bad considering that's including troubleshooting the problem too. As long as you're willing to pay it, that's all that truly matters.
  9. I should be pretty flexible for an upcoming trip....as long as I have a month's notice or so I'll be good to go. Can't wait to make it back to the dunes!
  10. That does sound a little low but not enough to tear it apart. If it runs good then I wouldn't worry about it until there is actually a problem. If you're having trouble getting it started, loss of power, etc..then I would look into a rebuild.
  11. Thanks for the replies guys!! I am running forged pistons, wiseco to be exact. I didn't think it would make too much difference, just wanted some opinions from the pros....If anyone differs from what's up here already, I'm all ears....Thanks again!!
  12. That really sucks man!!! Thanks for the heads up!!!
  13. I just got a call from my local shop who's boring my cylinders out....they called me to tell me that they bored the first cylinder, and when they did they noticed a small ring gap at the bottom of it. He said the top of the cylinder looked good, it was just enough ring gap at the bottom where he couldn't clean it up without boring it one more size bigger, which would cost me another 150 bucks for pistons and another 3 weeks down time; as well as putting me on my final bore... I told him to just leave it like it was (not to bore it bigger) and to bore the other cylinder to match the pistons and I'll take my chances. So, the question is...Is this something I'm gonna regret later? The way I look at is the most important area of the cylinder is the top, where it combusts.....the bottom of the cylinder is a little bigger anyhow, I shouldn't have any problems....or am I? Thanks in advance!
  14. That's nuts!! Kinda freaky but awesome the dog has a chance to survive like that....it be kinda like me losing my arms and learning to write with my toes
  15. If you haven't compensated jetting for the cold weather outside that could be it....
  16. lol, we get no Christmas bonus and are expected to work on Christmas, as well as new years....Union Planters Bank employees get the shaft, unless you're already making 70+ G's a year....they get bonuses
  17. Very sorry to hear that dale...my thoughts and prayers are with him
  18. It's not every day, but there are some out there...I've seen videos of some atc's smokin some serious ass. This guy may be full of it, but it is possible for it to be true too...
  19. No, it's not too bad...but to be totally honest with you, mine did the exact same thing for a couple of rides, then it got to the point I was kicking it 20 times to get it started. Check your compression when you get the chance, I'd bet the farm that's where the issue lies. lol, for the longest time I thought it was jetting, etc...all my friends were telling me to check the compression but I just couldn't cope with the fact it could drop so quick in only a few months. But, sure enough, I check the compression and I had gone from 148 in both to 85 and 100. I think my problem was the fact my rings were near replacing, and when I put my head on and bumped up the compression it went ahead and did them in....probably the same scenario for you Let us know what you find!
  20. I found this... http://www.atvstuffusa.com/index.asp?PageA...odID=4447&MMP=1
  21. I'm not trying to be a smartass at all but couldn't you get those with a ruler? Do you really need a micrometer to do that?
  22. Not sure what it sounds like when it's separating but your noise could be your crank bearings. They may just be getting worn that's all. Just fyi, I found a local shop that told me they would charge 150 bucks to replace all bearings on the crank and true and weld it too....just in case you were wondering on how much it might cost....
  23. Right now I'm running GBC dirt devils in the trails...I like them a lot, they grab when needed and spin just enough to not flip me over all the time.
  24. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That is the best way.......
