  1. i couldn't get to the events actual website, but heres a link with some info if your interested. i'm only about 45 minutes from the event but i have to work that weekend and may not be able to make it. quad fest '07
  2. my buddy's '01 rappy had a lot of tranny problems, and some starter problems also. but i think that was mostly just the 01's. if my wife was interested in riding, i'd go for both of them. otherwise, i'd pick the shee and use the rest of the money to build it to suit your riding style / area. if you don't have the extra $$, get the shee anyway. there's a lot more options for mods that you can do, as you can afford it.
  3. same here. i could see using it for indoor events, but otherwise, i wouldn't risk it.
  4. 99% of my guys are pretty sensible, but some of the temps i've had are out there. it's not hard to see why some of them are with a temp agency, still looking for a job 'cause i wouldn't hire them or keep them either. maybe this guy got transferred to you because no one else wanted him either. i get that a lot since i won't put up with some of the guys bs or poor performance and they know that i will either straighten them out (the goal) or send them out the door if needed. maybe they were just in the wrong seat on the bus... as far as the other situation, one thing i didn't get into any detail on... i have a mechanical heart valve as of about 10 years ago and of course on medications for it now. i mentioned the other position through me for a loop healthwise. i had a pounding headache and felt like i hadn't taken my medications that day during the following evening after work. that was the biggest reason i bailed after one day / shift. they said it was anxiety from the new position. but like i said, i've been in tougher spots before. but i was fine in the position until we spent 3/4 of the day in the shop and the fumes / voc's from the chemicals got to me. that was the biggest reason i wanted out ASAP.
  5. thanks for the replies guys. yeah, i thought about the possibility that what i could bring to the job may change some things more to my management style, and better the department, but i seriously doubt that this would be the case here. this process etc. is pretty much set in stone. i also thought about the fact that it was only 1 shift and didn't give it enough of a chance, actually pretty embarrassed about that. one of my upper management people suggested that i was just out of my comfort zone and had to adjust. again not the case. my first day as a supervisor, nightshift of all things, with a shift of people that i had never met before wasn't this uncomfortable. 5 years later, my first day of day shift supervisor dealing with sales, engineering, qa, shipping etc, all people i didn't really know, and a new shift of people in my own department under me, and lots of new responsibilities, wasn't this uncomfortable. my boss and another began setting up training sessions and things for me, that's when i put a hault to this. as a supervisor, i wouldn't put forth the time or effort to train somebody in a position that i knew that they were not going to continue in or do well in. i explained this to them, that i felt i would be wasting their time and my time by letting it go on. they seemed to appreciate my honesty, told me that i was an asset to the company no matter what position i was in, and had no reason not to return me to my normal position, in which we all feel that i am well utilized. the situation was that the position i took on, had just opened up due to demoting the last guy, and they slipped me right in there, with my consent. so the position is now void again, being handled by the original guys backup man. i told them that i would prefer to return to my normal position, but would help out in the other department any way that i could till they found a permanent replacement. same as if that supervisor was on vacation or something. i also threw in that i didn't necessarily want to be in my position forever and would still like to advance, just that the other position was not for me. it seems to be all ok, but of course it still concerns me. not that i made a wrong decision for myself, just how it will affect their perception of me and the possibility of future advancement. firehead, here's a good analogy for you to use. my boss is always telling me about having people in the right seat on the bus, i think you know what that means. i told my boss that not only was i in the wrong seat, but i think i jumped on the wrong bus. he laughed and said, your on the right bus, but if you feel your original seat was best for you, and we're happy with you being there, then it's better for all of us in the long run.
  6. i'm hoping that i'm not alone in this situation. i've been with my company for over 13 years and i've been a supervisor for almost 6 years, and give 100% day in, day out. finally it paid off. i was offered a promotion to oversee another department, and also my current department, including being the boss over my current position. i was given the details of the job, salary increase, new office and so on. the job was mine if i wanted it despite the channels that should have been taken, as in the position being open to others to bid on. so of course i agreed and took the opportunity to advance again. BUT, after one day in this new position, i knew without a doubt that it was not for me. not that it was too much to handle, or too stressful or anything, i'm used to all of that stuff. partly due to the fact that being around the chemicals and vapors in the new department through me for a loop healthwise. but the atmosphere, the work pace(actually slower), my personality and work habits really clashed with this other department. so rather than waste time with any training or getting settled and changing things up, i declined the position and asked to be returned to my normal job, and they agreed to do it. i love my job that i do now and i'm happy where i am. i know that i would not be happy and enjoy my job anymore in this other department and therefore wouldn't give it 100% effort. i'd rather go to work and come home being satisfied with my purpose and performance, than be in a position i don't like and dread going to work each day, regardless of the salary or title, etc. money isn't everything, at least not to me. they agreed that if i wasn't comfortable with it, it was best for all for me to not be in that position, and they had no reason not to return me to my normal position. i just hope that it doesn't ruin any chance for advancement into a different position in the future. anyone ever been through something like this?
  7. i agree with you in a way, that's why i didn't go to college. i didn't know exactly what i wanted to do, and i didn't want to go through more bs classes that i didn't really give a shit about. i never understood how critiquing a sonnet or certain type of literature was of any real benefit to me. or how knowing a rediculous amount of details in history would change my life. but i'll admit that math related classes, grammar related classes, and health related classes (since i'm a first responder now also) has paid off in ways that i never imagined they would. but yeah, there was a ton of totally worthless bs also, at least considering how my life and career turned out and what i actually use now. but on the other hand, if i had gone to college and learned about a lot more things and more in depth, i may be in a totally different position right now. my wife went for electrical / mechanical engineering, which had me interested in mechanical engineering, but i don't see why she needed some of the bs classes that she had to take that had absolutely nothing to do with engineering. that's exactly the kind of thing that turned me off from college.
  8. who are you?? guess i didn't miss you, lol. nah, i remember you. it's always good to see somebody check in once in a while.
  9. get real... :shoothead: that just gives me a reason to NOT use google. IDIOTS!!
  10. if you are still in school, don't listen to the guys that tell you "you will never use that stuff anyway". you have no idea what you will get into in the future in your work environment. some people don't ever use it, others will need it. i didn't go on to college, just college prep in high school. algebra 1, 2, 3, - geometry 1,2 - pre calc, calculus - physics - not to mention biology 1,2 - chemistry 1,2, and so on. anyway, i'm in a position now, as a fabrication department supervisor, that my math skills have paid off. not bragging or anything, but i have forgotten more than some people have ever learned, at least it seems that way with most of the guys who work for me, lol. i don't remember how to do a lot of things, (been out of school for 15 yrs) but when i sit down with an engineer to discuss a process or figure something out, i remember enough to not be totally lost. i remember having speech classes, that i thought were completely worthless and i'd never have to give speeches or presentations. wrong again. i couldn't tell you how many employee meetings i've had to lead, or meetings with upper management or peers that you have to more or less give a little presentation to justify your actions or future plans or ideas. if you're in a position to get a well rounded education, do it. and use it, or you will not retain it and you'll one day regret not putting the effort into it when you had a chance to. wow, did i just say all of that. re reading it makes me feel old!! :yelrotflmao:
  11. yeah, i've run 2 links when in a bind before also. like bigboybanshee, not my first choice set up, but it worked until it was time for a new chain.
  12. i'm with loco. those things would have just gone in the trash. i hate to say it bud but if you paid more than $1 a piece for them, you got ripped. a fellow hq'er?? man, that's sad... that ceramic coating sounds good, but i'd be worried about it coming apart and chunks in my cylinder. for the price of new domes, i'd just go with new ones.
  13. i agree, i think those are way overpriced bud! but i guess it may just be the area you are in. trailers around here that are similar are a lot less. check out how the frames are made, and how the tongue is attached, the axle placement for weight balancing, and tire size/load rating. many of the mid size trailers around here have little 2x2 angle frames and a cheap tongue with little wheels, and sell for about the same price as trailers with 4" channel frames, a solid tongue and 15" wheels. it depends on where you get them. lowes, home depot, tractor supply, and others can easily sell you a light duty trailer at a heavy duty trailer price. i bought mine from a local shop whose entire business is utility trailers. it's much better made and has a better axle on it. odds are though, once you buy one and use it, you'll be wanting a bigger one, so go big if you have the $$ the first time.
  14. yeah, i'd be one of those people who end up with all kinds of fines or even in jail because i'd be kickin some poperatzi (sp) ass!! those people have no respect for privacy. but i'm not sure which is worse, the media or the loser people who thrive on all the bs info they get from the media because they need to get a life of their own.
  15. 32 here. my dad is 58 and still likes to ride. pokin around on his 500 rubicon, but still likes to get out and go. he's looking at buying a new street bike this summer. time to retire the '80 cb750k, lol.
  16. i have tech 6's and like them a lot. yep, i had to readjust my shifter, had problems with letting down enough after shifting up, and pretty much have to shift with your leg, not just your foot. but after a few hours of riding, you forget that you even have them on and have made any changes. like anything else that's new to you, it just takes a little getting used to. after the break in of the boots and yourself, you'll never go back to reg shoes when riding.
  17. i used to tell them to hold on a minute and then put my 3 yr old daughter on the phone and let her ramble on. either that, or ask them to hold on while i get my wife, put the phone next to the tv and let them hang on the line till they finally hang up. it's amazing how long some of them will wait. maybe they were just enjoying the show, lol.
  18. 1) THEY SUCK FOR TRAIL RIDING 2) THEY SUCK CUZ YOU HAVE TO BUY 2 OF EVERYTHING 3) THEY SUCK BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS BREAKING DOWN ... 1) if set up properly and you know how to ride one, banshees kick ass on the trails 2) some things yes, but not EVERYTHING... but it's well worth it and doesn't really cost any more than mod'ing a 4 stroke and is MUCH easier 3) always breaking down is the fault of the idiot not taking care of it or not knowing what they are doing to begin with when doing their own work. (could be the same with any ride) i've seen lots of sweet shees on this site that are maintained better than some peoples cars or homes.
  19. did xring and renthal's here also. the 'atv' chains have higher tensile strength, that's what you want. i've had cheaper chains, and you get what you pay for. keep it lubed and adjusted properly and the did's work great and last a long time.
  20. here's mine...
  21. hey bud, welcome to the real world. women, work, bills, family, whatever, it's all bound to have some pretty miserable times. and just when you think it can't get any worse... it does. i'm now 32, married for 8.5 years with 2 amazing kids and have a nice home and a secure, good paying job. all things that i felt at various times were never going to happen for me. bud, you're 20, you have plenty of time to achieve these things. i know it's a bitch sometimes, but you have to just be patient. the more you try to force things to happen, the more they get messed up. you have to just roll with it and things will fall into place. i got married at 24 and had my 1st baby at 27. that is 4 yrs and 7 yrs away from your age now. a lot can, and will happen within that time period. it's up to you whether you let those things change you in a positive or a negative way. good luck bud.
  22. i was always under the impression that foam filters were better for water/mud, and say k & n's were better for sand
  23. pipes are absolutely the best 1st mod to do. as they said, shee really comes to life with anything other than stock pipes. it just depends on your riding style as to what kind you get. anything will be better than the stockers though. you won't get the full effect of any other mods without having better pipes to let her breathe a little better anyway. of course increasing air flow, like removing the snorkel, or the lid altogether and a better filter, along with proper jetting changes will really wake it up. these changes alone will give you much better performance without even touching the motor itself.
  24. i have pro circuits and like them a lot. they seem to be pretty good bottom to top. i ride anything from tight trails to open trails and farm fields and other open areas. they don't seem to fall off on hillclimbs either.
  25. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you are talking about 2 different things here. premix vs. fuel to air mixing more or less oil in the premix basically only changes your mix ratio. granted, too lean of a mix ( not enough oil) can cause problems due to lack of lubrication for the cylinder. even though it may seem to run awesome on a lean condition, it's not good and won't last for long. too much oil in the premix (rich) can foul your plugs, and also cause it to run like shit. changing premix doesn't really require jetting changes. jetting changes should only need done when either the amount of fuel flow, or air flow is changed, or temp or major elevation changes. increasing air flow would require increasing jet size to compensate, or you would be running lean.(too much air) also causing overheating and engine damage. increasing fuel level without additional air would be rich, and you may foul plugs, run like shit, and so on. i don't think that premix and jetting affect each other much at all. though each is extremely important to tuning your bike properly in their own respect.
