vitovito240 Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 i know its a silly question and i did a search but found nothing. can some one explain to me what it means when your engine is running lean vs rich? thhanks Quote
Frogger Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Rich = to much gas Lean = not enough To lean and you'll burn down your engine real quick. Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Just remember Lean is mean rich is a bitch. Your better off starting rich than lean just remember that Quote
2/2 many banshees Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 lean runs good one time rich runs for ever Quote
Wildcardracing Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Lean=too small of main jets, needle too low, too small pilot/not enough fuel per intake air charge=burn down Rich=too large of main jets, needle too high, too large pilot/too much fuel per intake air charge=poor performance, fouled plugs, hard starting Stoich=perfect jetting/optimal fuel-air charge=optimal performace, easy starting, long engine/plug life Quote
gussy78 Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 I knew this stuff but it's always nice to hear it another way. Maybe a little catchy and easier to remember.  Nice job. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Quote
250Rho Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 ive seen this shit happen before so be careful rich=not so mutch power and uses more fuel lean=more power, use less fuel, and if not corrected will land you a fucked up engine. i know from experience dude,,not me but a guy i know,,no no but you could imagine what itd be like!!! Quote
250Rho Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 yes,, better to ask then to end up with a toasted motor  Quote
TurboBanshee420 Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 lean sounds like it's running inside a tunnel....popping and gurgling.... idling real high then cutting out...@ WOT cuts in and out or doesn't run at all rich sounds dirty and makes lots of smoke... low idle or no idle...@ WOT it just dogs. .02 Quote
RollinRhino Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 You can run rich all day long and only have to worry about plugs. You can only run lean a little while and swap out the motor. Rich the engine will bog some but will run. Lean the engine will surge and finally die. Quote
