sheerider1026 Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 what do you mean by skipping and popping?? whats your compression, fuel and timing??? i went riding yesterday with my 68mm stock stroke cub, and there was this guy with a new suzuki 450 wanting to race.. he was a newbie and basically was saying he knew he could smoke me and wanted to race just so he knew!! well i finally got tired of smoking him and he left with a hurt ego!! lol we even raced on 2 different tracks and he still had no luck.. as far as your skipping and popping let us know some more info on your bike and we can help ya out better that way. sheerider1026 Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 what do your plugs look like?? are the carbs sync'd?? what type of fuel?? 18cc domes sound like you should be running a good race fuel, depending on the rest of the engine i can't say.. i run 20cc domes and i barely get away with 93 on mine.. Dave I. Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 is this a brand new motor? Id be careful racing too many times popping and such......what kind of fuel? Pingel? Anything done to the gas cap? did it run good before the new motor? I have no experience with them but ive always heard timing keys are not the most reliable way to advance timing. Id look at the simple things first, but you dont want to eat a piston so take it easy. Quote

sheerider1026 Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 it sounds like your degree key may have sheared!! i would check it for sure.. also check the pickup gap on the stator.. i had a bad plug cap once that made mine run crappy.. what carbs are you using?? are the carbs also new on this motor?? maybe need to play with needles on them.. first we need to see if it is timing or a jetting problem, or ignition.. what do the spark plugs look like?? Dave I. Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 I would almost bet you are not able to fill the bowls fast enough. I dont know exactly how those billet gas caps work but everyone i know that runs a cub has removed the internals from the gas cap and drilled it out as big as possible since that is the only vent you have for the tank. If it doesnt vent well it doesnt flow well. Also, you should get a pingel valve, cheap insurance and they really let the fuel flow. Quote

Dual Pingnel and a stock gutted gas cap. Quote
kawiking Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 yep pingle and gas cap... hell no on the degree key !!! get a timing plate !!! what carbs u runnin ?? Quote
kawiking Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 pm oe call jeff and by async tool.. i use mine alot to make sure they are good.. and all my buddies barrow mine... Quote
Keyser Soze Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Lol degree key works just as well as a plate. As long as your not interested in going more than +5 timing the offset is really nothing to worry about. BUT want to change timing again? Gotta get another key at least $12.00 ...good if you just want to go +4. Quote
