rigger Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Was in Lowes today and picked up a pair of Kobalt 10" concreters nippers. They are just 10" wire cutters that are turned 90 degrees at the end. I have Pure Sport Bandet XC on the rear of my Banshee and I have been wanting to cut them for a while to see if I could get them to bite a little better. Well I took the cutters and started chopping off lugs. They work great and were only like $17. Just thought I would pass the cheap tire cutting tool idea along. Just in case you are wondering, I am cutting off all of the angled nobs on the tire and every third center lug. Not sure yet if I am going to cut the side angled nobs off but I think I am. I am going to cut the others first and see how it looks. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 why you cuttin them? can you post some before and after pics? Quote
rigger Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 I am cutting them because they just do not grab any ground the way they are. They are just a hard tire with a lot of nobs and they are all so close together. I have a buddy that use to run 250Rs with this tire and he had the same problem with tire spin. He had some buddies that ran it too but they cut the tire and it was night and day difference in hook up. I can't seem to get pictures to post on here, but I will take a couple of pictures and if someone else can post then, then you can see what I am doing. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Upload the pics to imageshack.us Copy and paste the URL for Hotlink to Forums (1) in the message here. Works like a champ. Quote
rigger Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 Well I finnished cutting one tire. Took some pictures but I guess I am just stupid when it comes to trying to post pictures on here. I will try it again later. I ended up taking every angled nob off of the tire. And cut every third nob out of the center row. That way I now have a double stack, One behind the other, or pairs of nobs all over the tire. It gives good space between the nobs and it should be able to bite well now. The angled nobs were really close to the others and pretty much blocked the flat face of the nob behind it. Now they should have room to grab the ground. That is my thinking anyway. Guess I will find out for sure when I ride it. I will try to post the pictures again later. Quote
rigger Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 Finished cutting the tires. Got a chance to take her for a quick little play run down the side of the tracks near my house. BIG difference in the tires. They will grab now where all they would do before is just spin on top of the ground. Now I can set back on the seat and pull the front end off the ground with no problems. Before, no matter what I did, they would just spin and would not even pick up the front an inch off of the ground. They are still very easy to break loose and slide, do a quick and tight 180 turn, or just what ever. But now they bite when I want them too. I softened the compression on the rear two clicks and they did even better. Over all, very happy with the end result. It kept me from spending money on new tires that I don't have right now. Quote

rigger Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 Hey thanks for posting those for me. Maybe oneday I will learn how to post pics on here. I still need to do a little clean up on the rough cuts but it is really not needed. Just something I would like to do. Still can't believe how much better those tires are now. Quote
