mdhc500 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Hi guys... I'm sure this has been covered in other posts, and I'm also sure there are 50 different setups but I have a general question, and I want to tap into everyone's experience... I have mostly stock 06 except for FMF Fatty Pipes and PowerCore silencers and a set of Boysen Reeds. What would be a good air intake setup. I have asked about the Toomey 2:1, and I have heard about the K&N with the stock lid, the K&N with the Power lid and just some K&N's witn no air-box and outerwears. It's mostly 99.764% for trail riding (no water or mud) on purpose anyway. I was thinking with going with a K&N & Outwear on each carb and ditching the airbox all together... This seems like it would let the Shee breathe the best but ehat do I know? What are your thoughs... Also some porting advice with these setups are welsome. Im at 1,500 - 2,000ft... I;m looking for the best combo for what I have on my bike and the riding I want to do. Thanks.... mdhc500 Edited April 29, 2008 by mdhc500 Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 most of the billet intakes are pretty much the same. If your running bigger carbs they will sever asa duel purpose. By lifting the carbs up and over the clutch lever and also getting rid of the cross over tube. You can buy the intakes with out without a built in crossover. I have the White Knuckle Racing billet intake, it does what it needs to. The Boss, Modquad and several others are like i said pretty much the exact same thing. Quote
someone82 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Well I primarly just run trails and was running the pods w/outerwears. Where I ride there is rarely water, so i figured what the hell I'll run them, well to say the least I just lost my motor due to water (it wasen't more than a puddle). So I'm going back to the factory airbox with a proflow/unifilter and no lid. Also I got tired of cleaning them after everyride (gets dusty at Gorman). just my 2 cents Quote

You cant always avoid H20... Quote

Bansh-eman Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 dont waste the money on the power lid, just get a good k&n type filter that will bolt inside the air box and run an outerware over it. nothing will get past that will harm anything and you will save 120 bucks from that stupid powerlid Quote

With that, and the FMF Fatty's and Silencers were would be a good place to start w/jetting? 260's 300's? Any guidance... I'm all stock besides that and running at 1,500ft-2,200ft MSL... Quote

I'd say around 320 would be a safe starting place, maybe a little higher if you have them just to be sure then work your way down. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 at that elevation 320 will be fat. I ran 310 at sea level to 1500 with pipes reeds and airbox lid off and was a little on the fat side. id start with maybe a 300-310 main and do plug chops 27.5 pilot, stock needle 4th clip 2.5 turns on air screw, you should be very close Quote

sycoticbanshee00 Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 i just have a regular k&n drop in filter with an outerwear. my friends dual filter setup is exposed to everything so he has to clean more often. unless you want to go into all out drag, i dont see the dual filter setup any better than having the box, other than the nice sound it makes while you blip the throttle. i respect either setup. Quote

It gets even worse when you go to larger carbs. josh Quote
sycoticbanshee00 Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 yeah i know it does get in the way Quote
Wildcardracing Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 FMF's, no snorkel, lid-on and stock filter should be @260 mains for your altitude needle in middle clip, 1.5 out on air screws and stock pilot. Once you go to a pro-flo and no lid your mains will go up to 280-290 and your pilot will go up to 27.5, depending on if you go with foam or K&N filter. That's assuming that your fmf's are your only current engine mod. As for the filters, the dual pods are worth more power...but for a trail bike I like the pro-flo better. Quote

FMF Fatty Pipes w/PowerCore Silencers, Boysen Reeds in stock cages, stock airbox with snorkel removed, lid on w/ Drop-in-K&N filter. Very soon, as in as soon as UPS gets to my house I will be adding Cool Head with 19cc or 20cc domes and will be going +4 on my timing. I am currently jetted at 260 mains, needle in middle clip, stock pilot and 1.75 out on the air-screw... Seems to be jetted close? Will I have to rejet for the new MODS? Quote
