Face Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 hey, I need some help from all you pros! I took my bike out to the dunes last weekend and it was a bad day for me. My bike ran like crap the entire time. it wouldnt kick start, but it would push start everytime. when it was going it seemed like it had power but it was backfiring a lot. I thought it was the jetting or something else with the carbs so we took a set of carbs off a bike that runs amazing and put them on mine but the problem didnt go away. it seemed to be more in the middle and the top end. My old man thinks its an electrical problem like maybe my plugs arnt getting enough spark. I fouled a few plugs mostly in the left side. Could it be my stator? what else could it be? any help would be great! Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 i always start at the source of power for electrical. so test the stator then cdi then coil then caps, but try to swap your wires and see if the problem follows to the other side. if so your problem is your wires or plug caps. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 sounds like a pickup problem check the flywheel, and did you check or change the reeds too. Quote
gumby6t9 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 sounds like a pickup problem check the flywheel, and did you check or change the reeds too. I agree with the reed statement... I would check them next. Quote
Face Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 sounds like a pickup problem check the flywheel, and did you check or change the reeds too. I just had my timing advanced, I would think they checked my flywheel when they pulled it. but I havnt looked at the reeds, what should I look for? Quote
DEADONE Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) I just had my timing advanced, I would think they checked my flywheel when they pulled it. but I havnt looked at the reeds, what should I look for? mine just did that same thing last week. check the stator and make sure the key way is in it. we rushed to get my back together for the trip and missed the key way. made it back fire at mid to wot. check the reeds for cracks but sounds like a spark problem to me Edited April 16, 2008 by DEADONE Quote
shanYE west Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 If you just had your timing advance, perhaps they messed up the pickup coil gap. should be set about .015 Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 If you just had your timing advance, perhaps they messed up the pickup coil gap. should be set about .015 i dont usually run mine this tight. i want to say it run mine .018 to .020 i just use a match book to set it. Quote
dajogejr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 I do. Closer the better. I run .015 to .018. Have you done a compression check on the bike? Slides in the right carb, choke tube in place? 99% of jetting issues are electrical. Quote
AJC Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 i had a similar problem, and it was my TORS.. are yours unpluged or do you have a TORS removal kit? i unpluged mine and it ran like a champ. good luck!. Quote
