Recommended Posts

I am nagotiating with myself wiether i should take off the old heavy ugly heel guards and just run pegs?, i was feeling it out and if my foot did slip off it cant even touch the ground, i have short legs, and just wanted to know how many people run without them and if they have any problems, i don't jump, maybe the odd 20 footer and lumps cuz i ride trails, when i had me heel guards on i can never recall my foot slipping off before.

If you trail ride IMO I would leave them on. Most guys that take them off are in the dunes to save weight or make there bike look better. I run with them off on mine but it is a pure dune bike with a ext swingarm so the rear tires are quite a bit back there. If I were you I would go one step further and by nerfs with build in heel guards for max protection on the trail plus no problems running on the mx track when you want to.

alot of people take them off for looks and weight.... BUT. i tell ya, catching your heels and running over your leg will haul you off so fast you wont even have the chance to hold on or think. and the potential for injury is great, they are there for a reason. if you are faithful in your riding abilities and think your safe to keep your feet planted go for it there is nothing wrong with not using them (i sure as fuck dont, and i have ran over my leg on 2 occasions. got lucky the first time the second time my nuts hit the peg and i carved up the inside of my upper leg to the point of seventeen stiches, so its your call.

if your woorried and you want them gone for looks only, i suggest a good set of nerfs if they wont interfere with your style of riding. there fine in the woods but they do occasionally pick up sticks and horseshit.

your call. my vote is to chuck em. you wont run over your fucking leg more then twice.

Ive ran no pegs for years, I dont do it for looks, I like it. But as inthemail says, it sucks ass to lose a foot to the tire.

Take em off. You have a few other options, you could put some peg extenders on the end of your pegs, they help keep your feet on the pegs. You could also weld two footpegs together side by side to make a home-made Roll Design "double wide" footpegs. Knock on wood, cross you fingers and say a prayer to your god. Invest in a great set of riding boots too.

No heel guards, IMS/Roll pegs with kickups, and Gaerne SG10s.

Iv never ever had a quad with heel guards on it, Roll pegs on my Banshee and my 250r and my boots are a good ol pair of AXO's that iv had for 5 years, I love those old boots, I can't ride without having my riding boots on, it just feels unsafe without boots on.

Iv been riding for along time and iv never ran over my leg, but Iv seen it happen a whole hellava lot tho  . Never seen anyone seriously injured, but iv seen a few females that were riding doubles, get thier leg sucked under spinning tires, usually pulls em off the quad and the quad come to a stop and people are yellin and screamin', usually nothing worse than some road rash and a bruised ego. If your planning on MX racing, or have a lot of big jumps where you ride, then get some nerfs or guards, but for trail riding, fuck em, scrap steel.
