I replaced the main jets (up to 290's from 240's--running T5's and individual K&N pods), ran the mixture screw out 1.5 turns, etc. I bolted everything up, turned the fule on, and... the right-hand carb starts leaking from the overflow. I pull it apart, thinking it might be a stuck float, visually inspect everything, and do it again. Again it leaks. The float seems to be working fine, I'm pretty sure I have routed the fuel lines properly, and I don't see anything wrong in the float bowl area. Am I missing something? Does anyone have a close-up pic of the way the fuel lines/balancing bar stuff is routed? Should I just give up and go with a set of Keihin 30mm's?

Thanks!!

Some times you can just give the carb alittle tap with a hammer. If you have a rubber or plastic one that would be best. Tap it a couple times and like magic your carb is fixed. I hated my stock carbs, i was much happier with some aftermarkets. Good luck

Yeah, I was a little pissed after driving all the way to Pismo Sunday morning and not being able to run my 'Shee!! I had to settle for the Kawi (fun, but not like the 'Shee... )

If I do not get these running right, I may just throw in the towel and jump on a set of Keihin's...

check the float height. and if its good, the needle gets a little round groove on it over time. as small as it looks it can leak fuel fast. just buy new needles for both if you do. because onece you get that one fixed the other will leak too.

Carb upside down, measure from the carb to the top (highest point) of the float, right? How many mm should it be (stock needles, 290 mains, T5's)? Thanks!!!

Whlie you're absolutely right, stockers get set to 21mm...it's not easy to measure.

Tip the carb upside down, remove the gasket, measure from the gasket surface on the carb to the top of the float (bottom if it were right side up) 21mm is the setting.

Took the offending carb apart last night, and found that the needle jet was a little too "springy," causing the float not to seat all the way. The other float lay nice and flat when inverted... So I bought a carb re-build kit. I know I should have bought the pair, but the shop only had one in stock.

I'm planning to head out to Glamis this weekend, so I'll see how she does. Stock reeds, T5's, individual K&Ns with pre-filters, 290 mains and 25 pilots. Needle on the third clip.

In any event, I'd like to look into a set of V3 reeds (if you have a set...) and a set of 28-30mm K&N or Oko's (from CPW)...

Thanks again!!

Ya, a friend of mine had a little crap stuck in his float valve a few weeks ago and when I took the valve out and cleaned off what ever it was it didn't leak anymore............

Well, now it is hard to start! Argh!!!! I made sure the floats were at 21mm, made sure I have fuel going down each line, I made sure the choke tube is connected to both carbs... am I missing something?!?! There are two lines coming from the crank case (front and rear)--do these go anywhere? Otherwise, I have no overflow lines on the carbs...
