I got this 1988 banshee for 1000 cash. It had bad plastic and a bent frame near the grab bar. I welded the frame and with new plastic it looks sweet. I was told it had a big bore stroker kit in it, 38mm carbs, and boyesen reeds. I can say it has a toomey t-5 exhaust but thats all I can verify. Is there any way to tell if there is a big bore kit in it. My friend has a piped and .20 over 2003 banshee. We raced a 200 yard length and I beat him by about 40. He rode it and told me something had definatley been done and I should sell it immidiatly to aviod death. Is there a easy way to tell without taking it to a machine shop? The head has a stock casting number figured you would have to have something aftermarket with a big bore. I also noticed the ball joints have some slop on the J- arms is there any way to replace the joints or do a I need whole new arms? Sorry to throw out so many questions on my first post but when I was searching topics it looks like people are happy to answer questions.

welcome to your new home!

to answer your question, a big bore kit and stroker CAN be a sleeper with a stock head, there really isnt any way to tell without digging in. i dont think anyway someone quote me if im wrong.

for a grand id say you got a grand deal  its probley a 4mil drop in stroker crank.

i dont want to tell you you got had, but i trust your buddy knows the "hit" of a stock shee engine so your most likely all good.

as for the jarms, there is no way to replace them fucking ball joints. sucky deal, you can buy replacements with replaceable ball joints. (take it easy on it till you get new ones)

where to go now? get some porting and a new coolhead and your girl will wake right up, really really wake up.

just read my post over, there actually MAY be a stroker plate under your cylinders, that should tell you whats down inside. (unless its a REAL sleeper and the domes have been milled for the pistons)

I think your buddy doesn't want to get an ass whoppin every time you line up. Sounds like a sleeper. Good deal!

First off, welcome. This site is the shit....

I have not been a member very long, but I was in the same boat. The guy I got my bike from said he had all this work done on it. But to the eye, you could not tell. It was pretty much a stock case. The test drive was not long enough to really tell. HOWEVER, first trip to the park, I knew it was far from stock. It was scary fast. So I would say that the performance speaks for itself. I also noticed everything else the guy had done to the bike, so why would someone sink so much cash into accessories and bolt-on's if they were not going to dress up the motor as well?.......so if the bike performs well, and your not willing to break it down, you pretty much have to take the guys word for it.

I look at it like if it blows, you still got a good for a G.

There is a device you can get to measure the stroke, called the cheater...but it's a few hundred dollars...LOL.

Better off taking the head off and getting a number off the piston if you can.

Get some aftermarket J Arms. Any factory J arm out now is 20 years old...get aftermarket with replacable ball or heim joints.
