Face Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I am advancing my timing this week and I wanted to know where I should put it. my bud runs at +4 I was just wondering what you all thought I should put mine at. any info would be nice. Thanks! Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 what kind of compression does your motor have and what gas are you running? +4 is a pretty common advance. not too much not to little. remember the more you advance it the more your picking up on the bottom at the cost of topend. Top end isnt always going to win the race if you cant get out of the hole. so just play with it and see what you like. Quote

Thanks! I run +7 timing and like it alot! I am getting a new head and heard that I would have to back it down about 2 degress in order to still run 93 octane with the higher compression. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I would stay safe and run 4-5 degrees. I am set to 4 degrees right now. Quote
gregrob Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I'm running +5 and could actually put a little more in it but I don't want to sacrifice top end. I am at 130 psi and high elevation though. I run 91 pump gas as well. It really depends on the compression you're running and what octance fuel. Anything over 130-135 and 93 pump gas I would stick with +4 to prevent detonation. You can always check to see if it is backing out your plugs, that is a sure sign of detonation. If they start loosening up back your timing down until it quits detonating. Quote
Face Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 Thanks for the input guys! I was thinking +4 anyway, so its good to get some reassurance! Quote
fastquad02blaster Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 (edited) Not trying to steal the thread. Can you advance your timing with the stock plate? It's behind the flywheel, right? Edited March 8, 2008 by fastquad02blaster Quote
