bonzai272 Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 So ive got a 06 banshee thats only been on about 5 or 6 weekend rides since I got it. Last weekend and now yesterday....when I get to the riding spot and unload it, I go to start it up and it just wont go, no matter what I do, choke on, choke off, half choke, whatever. Temps are usually around 60 or 70 degrees. Ive checked plugs, not fouled and have spark. I have no clue what else it is. Eventually after I literally kick it over like almost 100 times, it will finally start. in the final kicks before it starts, I can finally hear it start to fire up and then just a few more kicks and it does. But once I finally get it going for that initial start....it has no other starting issues for the rest of the trip...fires first kick hot or cold all weekend long. One thing I have noticed last weekend and yesterday is that the gas tank is full...and I mean like almost up to the point of overflowing. Could a gas tank being too full cause something like this for some reason? Quote
BansheeRider71 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) I was gonna say jetting because of a sudden weather change, an if not because of a sudded weather change idk., but no the gas tank being full doesnt have anything to do with it being hard to start, I fill mine up full like that an it ussually starts within 5 kicks cold, 1 kick warm, an surprised the hell outta me when one day I rode for like an hour an the next day I pulled it outta my garage to go ride again an it started on the first kick. It was like 75 degrees out both days. BTW How do you like it since you put on new a-arms an shocks? Edited February 11, 2008 by BansheeRider71 Quote
bonzai272 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 I thought a weather change may be a factor but the weather has been pretty consistent since i got it and its only had this issue the past 2 times out. The new a-arms and shocks are the shizzz!! its like 5th-6th gear pinned in glamis over the ruts and its like a caddy compared to stock! Quote
BansheeRider71 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Hell ya man im sold, when I can get more money after I get all of the bolt on mods im gonna get +2+1 wicked a-arms in black an get works shocks black an white springs an get a +2 axel, also im gettin my front and rear hubs pc'd in candy black. But ya if the weather has been consistent then I would rule out jetting especially if the weather has been the same before and it was easy to start, have you cleaned your air-filters? an could be your T.O.R.S if it hasnt been removed, when its being hard to start is it getting spark? or fuel? yamaha04 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 check your compression. it shouldnt be lower then 100 and both cylinders should be close in psi. put in new plugs and then see if it fires up faster. when i had my first banshee after about say 4 or 5 of its first tanks of gas it wouldnt start. apperently the dealership jetting it rich as hell for break in or whatever and it would jutst foul the plugs after about 3 or 4 rides. It wouldnt start but about once in a while. finally i jetted it up and now its much better. the people at cpi wanted me to change my piolot also. Quote
MILO Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 have you had the carbs off lately to clean them? if so do you have the carb bowls on the right carbs. the left one has the 'starter jet' in the bottom of it. if you have them swapped, you'll have a really hard time on cold starts. also there is supposed to be a crossover tube between the carbs. it's just a small hose about a few inches long that runs from one carb to the other on the front side of the carbs. if it's not on there, you'll have starting issues also. put in new plugs, clean the filter, check the carbs for the tube and bowls, check your intake boots etc for cracks or anything that would leak excess air in. if that doesn't do the trick check your compression and let us know what you come up with. bonzai272 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 Never had the carbs off, aside from the dealer installing the jet kit for the TR6 pipes....but its been starting fine until lately. intake boots and air filter are clean and on properly. New plugs didnt make a difference, always has spark and fuel. Ill have to check for that crossover tube...I know which one you are talking about. If that wont work, ill check compression. thanks guys. Quote
