FireHead Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 steps #1 get a clymers manual #2 read the manual. Do a search for big reds case spliting  Word. Also, take you fuel tank off, remove spark plugs, and I always go out the left side of the frame........so, then you also need to pull that foot peg. Quote
Handyman Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 To remove the engine there are 4 bolts....2 on bottom, one up front, and one in the rear by the top shock mount bolt...YOu have to remove the exhaust too. not every compicated....you also don't have to remove the engine to rebuild the top end...you can remove the exhaust, remove the front plastics and tank and do it that way...I did this way just because i didn't want to disconnect the wiring harness and all the lines and clutch cable... just remove the nuts holding the cylinders that hold the cyclinders to the cases and pull the cylinders. And yes a clymers is ever so helpful....and it has pictures Quote

NYUK Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 the manuals are on e bay.cheap. it is your bible.every banshee owner should have one. though pulling the entire motor is not a must to do the top end. it is easier to see .on the east coast, dirt and mud gathers between the jugs. when you pull the jugs on the bike, it falls right in the cases.easier to spot with the motor on a bench. I like to seal up the exaust and carbs (airbox off) soak the motor with gunk engine degreaser for 10 min and preasure wash that sucker to prevent annoying grains of dirt getting in anywhere. One grain can do alot of nasty. Not to mention your hands will be clean on taking it apart. Quote
