LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Well i put my 400ex elka shocks on my YFZ a-arms and took it for a test ride today and OMG it rides like a caddy with gummie bear tires. While i was riding i hear the rear end screaming for its life...... yeah thats right the carrier is GONE :verymad: :: someone put a voodoo curse on me i swear, not to mention it is below freezing outside Quote
STINKYDELUXE Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 how wasthe ride hieght with that set up? Quote
LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 Well it has massive amounts of preload adjustment and the shocks are 16.5" eye to eye, i have it set with the front just a tad higher than the rear Quote
LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) I went to bust my cherry riding on elka shocks for the first time and the rear axle carrier bearings gave out it, sounds like someone with spent brake pads at a stop light :geek: Edited January 3, 2008 by LIM_Whiteboy4life Quote
kawiking Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 so do you need a carrier,or just bearings. i bought this off e-bay last year and never used it. Quote
LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 so do you need a carrier,or just bearings. i bought this off e-bay last year and never used it. The spocket side has material that was pealed back so i might hit you up with that offer once i start working next week and get some money Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 grease guns come in handy very handy....guess next time you'll give the bearings a squirt every once in a while. Quote
LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 well i do that kinda stuff every month or so, but its been sitting in the garage, ima start shooting grease into it every ride... lol pickies Quote
shee rips Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 shitty deal. been there done that. just be glad it didnt chew out any worse, because mine wasnt much worse than that and it threw the chain and broke the case. did you end up pushing it home too? Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Does the front end sit high enough with those shocks? I don't like those yfz front ends, sit lower than shit and don't function well in the real offroad world. Life is much easier with a roundhouse carrier! Quote
LiftdT4R Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 That sucks, the same exact thing happened to me a few months ago. That stocker is toast by the way, don't even try reusing it if the bearing didnt weld itself to the carrier. Buy a twin row carrier(has 4 bearings) if your going to stick with a stock arm. Or for a little more go roundhouse. That front end setup looks sweet. I don't like the YFZ front ends because they still don't have removable ball joints, but they do ride sweeeet. Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 I like seeing elka's covered in mud! Quote
LIM_Whiteboy4life Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 Well once i start getting paid, i will rake in some parts. First on the list is a RAD billet double roller carrier with a ZERK fitting!!!!! and will bolt to the stock swinger yay, durablue axle, new spockets/chain. So it will be down for a about a month Quote
Washburn Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Yeah that does suck man, at least you have a sweet ride. I got my elkas like 6 months ago and only killed the trails with them twice. They are sick though. And the rear elka setup doesnt work untill I get my swingarm modified. Could be worse. Quote
