moood Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 Hey guys, im very new to ATVs. I just bought a Yamaha Banshee 2003. I need help with the premixing ratios, i dont understand what you guys mean by 40:1 or 32:1. I was told by my friends to mix almost half Yamalube with Premium unleaded fuel in a 25 gallon. I did that and it smoked as hell and is still smoking even after many rides. I thought it would burn all the extra oil but it still didnt. I fouled 2 plugs but after a very long ride including rides through water (not very deep). So would any of you guys be generous and help me with the mixing ratios. Thanks.. Quote
CombatTalon2 Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 (edited) its smoking because you mixed it 1:1 (one part oil to one part fuel) the Ratio 40:1 would be 40 parts fuel, to 1 part oil.....A lot less oil than what you were running. Get a Ratio Rite measuring cup and you wont be guessing on any of the measurements. Usually I mix in 5 gallon containers, and thats around 20 oz of oil at 32:1 or 16oz at 40:1. Hope that helps! LiftdT4R Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 ^^ Like he said, you need a ratio rite mix cup. Basically the 32:1 which is a good mix ratio and what most people run is like taking 32 gallons of gas and mixing in 1 gallon of oil. Now obviously you really can't do that unless you have a big drum, so you would do like 1/32 gallon of oil to 1 gallon of gas. The cup has lines on it that will tell you where to fill it to for what ratio, and how many gallons of gas your mixing it with. Or you could grab one of mom's measuring cups and a pencil and paper. She might get mad though, I got hit with the wooden spoon for that. Quote
flattrakker Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 32:1 is 32 parts gas to 1 part oil. 40:1 is 40 parts gas to one part oil and so on. lean is a mixture where there is less oil to the same amount of gas.. 40:1 is leaner than 32:1.. rich is just the opposite being more oil to the same about of gas. a rich premix mixture would be 20 or 24:1 which i believe is what the manual reccomends.. a lean premix mix would be 80:1. a popular ratio is 32:1. ratio rite is the way to go.. head on over to fleet farm and pick one up. moood Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 Wow thanks guys for the fast replies  .. i think i understand now how it goes. So basically i mix 1/32 of oil with 1 gallon of gas. Where i come from we deal with liters instead of gallons.. so according to google i use 3 liters of oil with 25 liters of gas? Would that be a correct 32:1 ratio? Thanks again, love this forum Quote

moood Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 hey guys, i just emptied out the gas inside the shee, i mixed 16 oz of yamalube and 15 liters of gas. I read somewhere on the forums that this should be a 32:1 mix. I ran it and it still smokes a lot, it only smokes when im on neutral, but when im running i dont see smoke. I tried to revv just so the if the extra oil would burn out, but it smokes never ending.. any ideas? Quote
theshee Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Id imagine its still got some oil in the tank/ carbs from being mixed 1:1 the first time. They do smoke when mixed right too, its a two stroke, it burns oil as it runs making some smoke. Im sure it will clear up with a little time. Quote

Yeah my friends said the same thing, now i just need the Skin Industries Freeride skin, a new clutch and ill be good to go  . oh i have another question, my shifting handle whatever its called is a bit stronger or harder than usual. It doesnt shift as smooth as others, specially when i want to put it in neutral. When im running and i want to stop i cant shift it to neutral, i have to turn it of on first gear then put it on neutral. Is that because of the clutch kit, and doest hurt if i switch it of on 1st while running? thanks again Quote
theshee Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Not finding neutral is common on banshees, they just dont like neutral. If your clutch is hard to pull, look into an eze pull lever, and a motion pro clutch cable. As far as making it shift smoother research the "shift star mod". Quote
