meanv10 Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Bought an 88 banshee at the end of the summer. went ridding a few times and the last 2 i had steam coming out of the radiator. I know that cant be good, when that happened i was running 32:1 premium gas with koltz synthetic oil. could this be the reason? what mix do you guys run on a stock banshee? I know that there hasn't been any jet work done to i and it has the stock exhaust and air filter ( replaced when bought) any advise? thanks. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 your mix is fine. your impeller could have broke off and its not cylcing your fluid. or your radiator could be gummed up. pull the cover off the impeller and check it out Quote
meanv10 Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) So should i also check that plastic gear? and does anyone know anything about those water temp guages? like how hard they are to instal and how well they work? Edited November 20, 2007 by meanv10 Quote
blowit Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 So should i also check that plastic gear? and does anyone know anything about those water temp guages? like how hard they are to instal and how well they work? Generally, when the gear fails, it really fails so you should be able to kick the bike over with the impeller cover off and inspect for good rotation. However, if the impeller is bad, the cover is coming off anyway. Brandon Quote
Animalman294 Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 You may also check your plugs and make sure you are jetted right, because lean conditions will make the motor run hot too. Quote
meanv10 Posted November 28, 2007 Author Report Posted November 28, 2007 tore it apart last weekend, everything looked good, the plastic gears looked fine but the water pump looked a little warn around the outside but the impelers seemed to be ok, so sould i still get one of theose hiflow water pumps or just keep the stock in? thanks for the help Quote
jbooker82 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 You might check the carb boots for cracks. They could be cracked and leaking air. That would cause a lean condition, and cause over heating. Quote
