fitz18 Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 Hi all, Im just getting my cases back together and put the main shaft and counter shaft back in tonight. I am using the clymers manual and its says to check shifting through all the gears. Ive tried many times as it says in the manual but I must be doing something wrong cos I just cant get it :: The will only shift up one then back down again! Its startin to piss me off! The manual says to find neutral. How can you tell if the trans is in neutral by looking at it? Any tips or something im missing while I try to do this mother f@*ker?? Thanks Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 you have to assemble the bottom half and click through the gears like your riding it. you can feel it making it to the next gear. you can also do this with the clutch cover off and see the shift start turning. sitting still you shoul dbe able t shift though all the gears Quote

I have it on the bench with the clutch cover off and I have watched the shift star turning but it only moves up one and then back down again. i have set it up so the adjustable screw has equal amount of space on either side of the shift star just like the clymer says! The shifter will not move at all just up and back down! Please help guys! Where am i going wrong??? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 (edited) when you reassembled the tranny did you make sure the shift forka where in the correct position on the drum? or did you even remove the tranny? Edited November 16, 2007 by Bansh-eman Quote
chevy7398 Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 mine never has rolled through all the gears either, i have to roll it a little to get it to click into the next gear sometimes Quote

Yeah i did have the trans out but just to clean the case out. I just double checked and the shift forks are definalely in the correct places. When I put the shifter on I should be able to shift all the way down to 1st corect? Then up a little to neutral?? I cant do this! Can I tell by looking if the gears are in neutral? Quote
fitz18 Posted November 16, 2007 Author Report Posted November 16, 2007 Gonna hit they hay here guys but keep the solutions coming! Cant wait to get her bcak up and running! Any help is fantastic. Thanks  Quote
spike Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 it will not shift if your tranny is not moving. When i put my cases together I always check it before I close them, you just put everything in the bottom case then you turn the inpout shaft while clicking thru the gears. you can tell your tranny is in neutral when the shift star roller is in the neutral notch of the shift star (the one that is ground in one of the peaks) or you can hold your output shaft while turning the input shaft. Bansh-eman Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 it should shift into first without any tension but to get to 2,3,4,5,6 you need to turn the drive shaft ..... just turn it by hand. you dont need to spin the crap outof it just enough to make the gears turn and catch when the forks try to push them Quote
blowit Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 you have to assemble the bottom half and click through the gears like your riding it. \ What this means is you need to install the shift, and put a bars stool directly over the engine and straddle the engine. make sure you are hammered when doing this for better effect. Now, as you shift through the gears with your foot, make engine noises to simulate a 120hp cub motor. if you keep missing shifts, that means you might have the tranny assembled wrong. Brandon Quote

Brandon :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: Thanks guys! Il try what you've said and let you's know how I get on. Im a bit concerned that I might not be able to fully simulate the 120hp cub which may affect my shifting abilities but Il give it a dam good go!!! :yelrotflmao: Quote
KG03Banshe Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I have a similiar problem to this guy. My case is also apart because the bike gets stuck in between gears. You can see it happening when you try to shift it through the gears, the dogs get stuck up against the gear they are trying to go into. Then the assembly is stuck untill you physically spin the gears by hand? Whats up with that??? Quote
