I always recommend that people mic things before just making a new hole for no reason but have found that most people do not know how to measure a bore. Even shops, because they would rather charge for a new hole. With this in mind, I recommend boring to be safe. Brandon Quote
NYUK Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 i would bore it. better safe than sorry. your eye might not be able to see the bore wearing oval. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted November 4, 2007 Author Report Posted November 4, 2007 well the compression was in the 90 psi range, the bore looks fantastic, was just thinking of honing and throw in some new rings.., it was running fine, just a freshen up.. couldn't be any worse than if he just kep on running the motor as it was right?? i do have a mic, just didn't have it with me the day i was over there, what should the cylinder mic at?? it is .020 over .. 64.50mm not sure what range there is to be in spec Quote
NYUK Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 there are different tolerances for forged and cast pistons. i am not sure of the numbers. Quote

bansheefreak Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 i would hone it and rering it.. if it was me.. Quote
KyleMan-shee Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 I know this is a stupid question, but what exactly is honing ? Quote
NYUK Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 ball hone roughs the cylinder walls so the rings seal with the premix oil. it is a crosshatch type pattern. Quote
blowit Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 ball hone roughs the cylinder walls so the rings seal with the premix oil. it is a crosshatch type pattern. Not exactly. I think the ball was in motion before posting and this one will get rings and put back to bed regardless of condition. Brandon Quote

bansheefreak Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 myself would have bore checked for trueness but no need to bore unless it needs it .. no use in wasting a bore.. Quote

2strokespirit Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Try find some new rings and measure the ring end gaps in the cylinder, if they are in limit, hone re ring it, otherwise bore it. Quote
