Im just barely getting into sand riding like Glamis, Pismo, etc. I have Sand Stars all around but my buddy is going to buy a Banshee and the dude hes getting it from has been running paddles in the rear with just the regular dirt tires on front.

What type of difference are we talking about if you run dirt tires compared to sand up front? Im trying to tell my friend he needs to buy some sand stars up front but this guy is saying he will be fine with dirt. Maybe he will, I dont know. This is Glamis dune riding im talking about and sorry for the stupid question. Im still a noob. Thanks!

dirt fronts are ok if you dont have any others, but your sacrificing how well you can turn.

i will second that... the sand tires tend to be lighter as well and help to reduce drag.... i roll with either the smoothies or mohawks and i love em.... they really float well

Not to mention when you turn you're gonna be eating sand from the knobbies picking it up...whereas smoothies just kinda float....

Smoothies are the only way to go...but, if nothing else, knobbies will suffice.

I run dirt tires on myt '99 and I can tell a difference but then again I'm not turning hard either. the bike will still turn but it will push a little more but then again yiou have sand stars to a little gas and the rear should swing right around. If money is an issue, roll with the knobbies for now and get some front sand tires after you get back.

Dirt tires will work if ya ain't got nothing else but sand tires are well worth the $$$, especially if you do any tight technical riding. I prefer Dune Trackers over Mohawks.

i run my razr's in the sand with straight paddles and its not the best but it works, especially if i want to hit the dirt trails with the 4pokes. i keep them air'd up nice and hard.

dirt tires will be ok but sand fronts would be a big improvment... i wont ever run knobbies in the sand again turning just sucks period. i personally like the sand star fronts the best, but there is not a big difference between any of the fronts with some kind of ridge.
