JdiZzla Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 So i was wondering if if i powder coat my pipes it will stop the leaking. My pipes are PT Hi revs and while riding the hanger weld broke on the pipes, i rewelded the hanger on but did not properly prep the area because i didnt want to take off all my chrome around the weld, bad idea on my part because now the weld leaks. THis is a VERY small leak, one that if i clean the oil on the pipe will take an hour of riding to even see the oil start forming around the weld. So i was wondering if i got the pipes powdercoated would this maybe seal the leak? Or would this be bad for the coating? Quote
Hulio-mv Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 if you are going to powder them just grind it down and try again it wont matter how much chrome you grind off cause it will be covered up Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 do it right and fix it with a weld. trying to mask the problem with powdercoating doesnt help. i think i remember one set of pipes last year a guy had pc'd black but i never heard anything about how well they held up Quote
bansheefreak Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 if your gonna pc jus do like they say and fix the weld.. cus i can see the with powder over the hole eventually will have big bubble and look like shit when it comes off way bigger then the leak itsself.. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I doubt the powdercoat will work.. If the hole is there the engine vibration will cause it to spread, like a crack on windshield. Reweld & go the ceramic coating route. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Do it right and you won't have any problems down the road. My PC toomey T5's are holding up nicely Before After (not cleaned after riding) Quote
wiecha17 Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 im thinking of getting my trinity stage IV pipes done w/ powder coat .. how much does it cost and does it hold up to the heat in the front of the pipes ( ie the first 4 inches where it is the hottest ? Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 My pipes were really rusty so with the blasting and coating it was like 175. it is a satin black and right by the head it turns flat black. but is not that noticeable. Quote
wiecha17 Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 so what kind of pait/ powder coat do you use ? Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 it is high temp PC used for exhaust or high heat applications. A good PC shop will know what to use for exhaust. Quote
