Are any of you guys cutting your one piece cylinder base gasket to accomodate the coolin pockets in the top of the case? I know it might seem like a silly question, but I am inclined to do it. The downside is that it makes the surface area on the gasket awfully thin in a few areas. The upside is that any temperature reduction or normalization near the crank chamber will always make you more power.

What do y'all think? :geek:

so the cooling pockets in the front of the case on the top? Dont they only go down about 1" or so?

Yeah, that's what I am talking about. I don't think there is a way to use the rear cavities without machining the base of the cylinders.

I think I have decided against doing this as I think the gasket may be more prone to blowing out if I cut it for the previously mentioned purpose. However, I am pretty sure I have done this before on a few other engines where I actually did machine the base of the cylinders and my old triple design made the upper portion of the case wet via a similar manner. :geek:

Since the rears are plugged off on cubs, the only thing I do is cut the base gasket on the bottom of the cub cylinder to match the transfers...and it's very thin in the middle and on the sides...kinda like my hair line....

That's why I use a thin coat of RTV as well, for insurance...

I cut mine for the pockets once and it blew out on my first ride. Haven't done it since then. I just trim them to match the case porting and call it good. I'm sure if you use a thicker gasket material it would hold up, but that will mess with your port timing and squish and blah blah blah...

I fix stuff that I fucked up for a living.............I am hoping not to have to do it with this engine for awhile.

I have this thing setup for a .020" gasket and a few microns of Yamabond. I have decided not to accomodate the lower cooling pockets with the gasket trimming............and leave well enough alone. :geek:
