CombatTalon2 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Well I took the shee out for a little trip to the dunes this last weekend. Had a good time. Didn't get to ride the shee much but did get a chance to spank my buddies YFZ450. The 450 had Sparks exhaust, Hot Cams, an 06 449cc cylinder and some other work. He was talking alot of trash and the banshee held up her good name. Beat the 450 by about 10 lengths on the flats at glamis. Running a quarter mile or so in wash one. Anyway, on the 3rd race i couldn't get her into 3rd gear. I didn't think much of it, i kind of stopped, messed with the shifter and all was good for a little while. Got about half was to lizzard hill when the banshee just shut down on me. I thought the worst, but to my surprise she fired right back up, and promptly died. I could tell something was clanging around inside the clutch case. Tore her apart tonight. Found half the tabs for the clutch basket ripped off and laying in the bottom of the clutch case. Yikes. Basket is toast. Also found a needle bearing in the oil along with the spring that holds a seal tight against the surface of whatever its sealing. So tomorrow i'm splitting the cases to see what other carnage i can find. Good news is that the cylinders look great, no gouging or anything on the walls of the cylinders. Pistons look good, dark, but no signs of detonation or anything. Probably replace those since im in there anyway. Got a lot to do before Halloween weekend! Quote
Bansh-eman Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 nice! at least you can say when you fuked that thing up... you did it right! no half assing it get your self a billet basket and that issue will be solved. as far as a needle bearing i cant think of anything inside the motor that has a needle. Im wondering if i can get away without splitting the cases. just flush the trans a few times, and see if any crap comes out of it. replace the basket and put her back together. top end looks great. locogato11283 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 might wanna take a look at your other clutch parts. chances are they are fucked up too. if youre buying a new clutch and basket, might as well replace the inner hub and pressure plate. they arent much money. FAST keeps them in stock.. Quote
JET 99 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 that little needle from a bearing you found when you drained the gear oil. i think that goes down in the lower part of the clutch arm assy down inside and its actually a pin in the arm assy . my clymers is at work. i had a debate with a friend about some specs. sucks not having the bible at hand.. i have one of jeffs clutch setups and it has not failed yet... I figured out what the needle bearing looking thing was. Its the pin that holds the water pump gear (the plastic one) in place. Glad i didn't dump my oil catch pan! Quote
