mikey351 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 What oil ratio do you recommend I am running motel full synthetic oil on my stock 06 banshee except for KN and Jets. I ride at near sea level. Currently I am running 32:1 I have been advised by a friend to run 33:1 but the dealer reccomends 32:1 what are your thoughts? Quote

Currently I am running 32:1 I have been advised by a friend to run 33:1 but the dealer reccomends 32:1 what are your thoughts? Seriously....get new friends...LOL. If you mix at 32:1...chances are some days you are 30:1, some days you are 34:1... It all depends on how EXACT your measuring device is....32:1 is just fine. Your friend is probably pulling your leg... I mix my oil and methanol to 28:1. When I'm in a hurry, I'll put an extra ounce or so of oil in my Ratio rite because I know that last little bit sticks to the cup and I don't feel like waiting forever for it to drain into the fuel can. Your bike will not run any different, 30:1 to 34:1...promise! Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 I concur. Just remember, do not change your oil ratio to troubleshoot a jetting issue. Plug Chop Quote

mikey351 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 I measure the oil with a set measuring cup. I was told that my bike was blowing a bit to much smoke hence 33:1 I dont know if it would make any difference though Seriously....get new friends...LOL. I was told that my bike was blowing a bit to much smoke hence 33:1 I dont know if it would make any difference though Honestly...if you could tell the difference in smoke being blow from 30:1 to 34:1....you'd have to have 100K of equipment to measure air quality, density, etc.... That would be like owing a swimming pool and saying by looking at it you could tell the difference between 250,000 gallons of water in it and 250,010 gallons in it... 32:1...you're set. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Lets say you are mixing 1 gallon of fuel, 128.00 oz. At 32:1, you need 4.00 ounces of oil per gallon. At 33:1, you need 3.87 ounces of oil per gallon. 4.00 - 3.87 = 0.13 oz. Lets calculate percent difference: [E2-E1/(E2+E1)/2]x100% = [4.00-3.87/(4.00+3.87)/2]x100% = 3.30% A 3.30% difference in the two oil ratios is not going to make that much of a difference. As mentioned above, unless I take the time to measure exactly 32:1 on my ratio cup and then swirl some fuel in the cup to get all the oil mixed with fuel, there is a good chance that my mixture is off 3.30% any given day.
