samc Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 okay since im rebuilding my engine im thinking of the best things to get my engine redone, this is what i thought - bills pipes (already got them) - boyesen power reeds $60 - bored .50 over (already done) - wiseco pro lites ($120) - uni filter ($20) - fmf boost bottle ($40) - +4 timing degree key ($10) - milled head ($75 i think?) - jet kit ($50) - open air box. (free) - outerware airbox lid cover ($20) is that a good set up? im going to be doing all around, hard riding trails, track, w/e i can do the bike is going to be ran hard. will have have to run race gas with them mods? also my buddy has a yz125 carb hes going to give me, will that be big enough to run 1 carb on the 2 cylinders? chevy7398 Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) boost bottle does nothing so 40 bucks timing key is not the way to go 10 bucks eguals 50 bucks go get yourself a adjustable timing plate 35 bucks and save yourself the costly rebuild from the key shearing later and get a 12 pack with the left over cash to aid in getting it all together you dont need a jet kit you only use two mains and 2 pilots, so 4 jets total that you can buy for a few bucks a piece why buy a kit with a ton of sizes you will never use its like buying a honda rim for your banshee youll never use it either Edited August 15, 2007 by chevy7398 Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 timing key is not the way to go 10 bucksgo get yourself a adjustable timing plate 35 bucks and save yourself the costly rebuild from the key shearing later I definately agree, been there done that, those degree keys give you some shit for sure.. Unless your compression is over 150 from the shaved head id stay pump gas... Should send those cylinders in to get them ported while your at it, thats the only way to run a banshee hard Eric Quote
samc Posted August 15, 2007 Author Report Posted August 15, 2007 thanks for the replys. ill keep this stuff in mind, what timing plate would be the best? im thinking maybe just throw some wiseco pistons in there and get the head shaved with my pipes and filter and should have a good running bike. i want something with a hard powerband... badassbanshee479 Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 if ya want a hard power band I think I would ditch the pipes and buy some t-5's!! or some cpis You can buy the adjustable plate on ebay!!! Quote
samc Posted August 15, 2007 Author Report Posted August 15, 2007 yeah i dont have that kind of cash tho. if i get any pipe im going with the LRD's Quote
shee rips Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) you could probaly find someone to shave the head for cheaper than 75$. mine cost me 30 EDIT-dont waste your money on a boost bottle. put that money into an adjustable timing plate instead. Edited August 15, 2007 by shee rips Quote
. Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Ricky stator sells an adjustable plate or you can go with ebay. You'll have to get the flywheel removal tool as well. RMATV sells them for real cheap and they work well. Dont worry about different carbs until you get porting done. I'm not a big fan of the 2 into 1's for in the woods. Lots of testing has been done, especially with LRD pipes and woods porting and the taperbored 28mm twin carb setup is what you'll want to run. If you do want to run a 2 into 1 setup, buy a kit. save up and get a pro design aftermarket foam setup and ditch the airbox lid, and get one of those covers instead of the lid. go with the dual stage reeds, I stayed with the epoxy reed, they seem to flex better. on a side note, if you want a hard powerband, stay away from the LRD's. They pull forever (longer than t5's), but they dont really have a powerband hit. It is a very broad range that has a ton of torque before it starts really ripping. It's an awesome pipe for the woods because it isnt an abrupt hit that will throw you somewhere you dont want to go. If you want that lightswitch feel still, I'd go with another pipe. I actually plan on buying a shitty ass set of pipes one day, just to throw on now and again to satisfy that lightswitch hit that is so addicting Quote
samc Posted August 15, 2007 Author Report Posted August 15, 2007 shee rips - where did you get your head shaved for $30 at? lmk im deff going to get it done for that. . (dude above me)- thanks, im dont really want to spend the money for a port job inless i can find somebody that will do it for really cheap (decent job), im going to look into that timing plate. does that mess with the jetting at all? when i checked my carbs i had a 200 main jet. i was on billspipes.com and found that it says to ran a 300 main. this is what came in the bike so they never re jetted when the pipes were added. i think im going to paint my bills pipes, im not sure yet. im not sure how they feel.
