peterlocal22 Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 just got some new tires so i want to take my old fronts off put new ones on. i have hiper beedlocks in front. i thought all you gave to do is take the ring off the outside of the wheel. i did this and now it appears the tire is glued onto the other side. thats the side w/out the beedlock. how do i get this off? its glued in really good. thanks Quote
differentstrokes Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Hey Peter, I have hipers too. The hipers are just like any other single beadlock, you need to break the bead on the inside of the wheel. I would just take them to any tire store or place that changes tires and tell them that you need the tire dismounted. They'll pop the bead loose for you for a few bucks I'm sure. You can work the tire off yourself in a couple minutes with a tire iron or large screwdriver. Quote

You can work the wheel off the rim with one, no problem. I just wouldn't recommend trying to actually break the bead with something like a screwdriver, that would definitely destroy the wheel and tire. Hipers are a pain to break the bead on for some reason and when you mount the tire they don't make that "popping" noise like an aluminum wheel for some reason. They kind of just slide on quietly. I would hose the bead down with wd-40 before I try to inflate the tire and seat the bead or use some dish soap on it. Besides that you shouldn't have a problem. :thumbsup: Quote

Went to harbor freight and bout the changer for like $40 and have swapped out many tires with no issues. Takes me about 5min a wheel now. At first it was a PITA because I never change my own tires but now its a snap. Quote

Obviously you will need an air compressor to fill the tire up. SOmetimes it takes little PSI to set the bead other times it takes a lot. When i put my blackwaters on my pred it said dont inflate over 25psi to seat the bead, it took almost 60psi. It also depends on the ply of the tire you are mounting, lower ply's normally seat the beads easier Quote

Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 dude, dont pay to have it done, once you have that bead broken, you can just pull them off the outside of the rim, put the new one on, put the ring back on, and pump it back up with air to seat the bead on the one side (soapy water on bead) For what it would cost to break that bead, you could buy a nac's bead breaker or a tire changer from harbor freight. Personally I like the bead breaker from nac's. It's portable and takes up no room. The harbor freight one makes it easier to get it over the rim on regular rims, and you dont have to use tire spoons to get them off and on......but you have hipers so you dont need that. Quote
