Hubie000 Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 hey guys- i have a '98 banshee that is only firing on one cylinder. It has the stock carbs with TORS, fmf fatties. It just started running bad all of the sudden. I've tried new plugs, switcehd the plug wires, those seem to be working fine..... any ideas??? i'm not sure what it could be. thanks Quote
zach45 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 check to see if u get spark out of both sides? Quote
J-Madd Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Check to choke tube and unplug the TORS first. Quote
tmac20031 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 (edited) If its only when your bike is idleing, then its a clogged pilot jet for sure. trust me. If thats not the case, your parking brake system might be going out of wack. Edited July 24, 2007 by tmac20031 Quote
swrbansheeboy Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 so when you say you switched plug wires does that mean you unplugged the wires from the plugs and swapped them? i'm assuming this is what you did and that your problem stayed on the same cylinder...if you can swap your wires and the problem stays on the same side then swap your plugs,if it still stayes on the same side then you've ruled out your electrical. clean your carbs and check the choke tube since these are two of the easiest things to do and if your like most people you dont pay any attention to your carbs as long as your not having a problem so they are probably in need of a good cleaning anyway. do a compression test and a leak down test just to rule out any compression problems or air leaks as your culprit and even if it doesnt turn anything up it's still cheep peace of mind to know where you stand compression wise and that you have a solid leak free set of seals and gaskets at this point in time.... Hubie000 Posted July 24, 2007 Author Report Posted July 24, 2007 thanks for the replies, i will try these tonite. Quote
tmac20031 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 If you do check your carburator just make sure you know which one is the pilot jet. Im sure you do but some people could miss it. Its a small jet thats screwed in a tube beside the main jet. You will need a small screwdriver to get it out. When you do the best thing to do is to use a straightened paper clip to push any debris out. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Also could be a broken reed causing this.... Quote
MSBansheeDrags Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Also could be a broken reed causing this.... i had this problem and it was a messed up throttle cable that let the slide close all the way on one side when idling...the key is it is only at idle then runs good...use a laser temp guage to test the exhaust pipes if you have any question as to when it is happening and to what amount...just pull the filter(s) off and look up into the back of the carb to see if there is a little opening at the bottom of the slide at idle...i replaced my cable an was fine...dbr Quote
